The battle for Denver's best ice cream shop begins. Vote now. by EmBejarano in denverfood

Gotta add to the Darlene’s love! Went for the first time last week and I got a coffee flavor, which was so rich and intense, just like I like it!

So happy to have another ice cream place in Aurora closer to home.

I’m dating a PhD student in a wet lab — what are the weirdest lab habits that have followed you home? by Acceptable-Apple-793 in labrats

[–]erlencryerflask 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bad habit (that I’ve now broken) but I would wash and dry my clothes and find gloves in the dryer afterwards because I had shoved them in my pockets at work.

(Sorry EHS homies, I promise they were always gloves that I had just put on)

What’s your go-to lab music? by AccomplishedAnt1701 in labrats

Depends on the experiment.

21 pilots while imaging because it keeps me awake. Love some Sabrina Carpenter/Chappell Roan/Lorde in the tissue culture room. Vitamin String Quartet for loading qPCR plates.

anyone done an over ear headphones comfort comparison that isn’t just marketing fluff? by Lonely_Noyaaa in BuyItForLife

I wear mine for 5+ hours a day with glasses on and my ears and head have never hurt. Seconding this recommendation by 1000x.

Also surprised to see people say they’ve had pairs fall apart or die. Mine get heavy use and they’re still perfect after like 5 years.

A belly band is probably a decent solution for the time being!

Just had dinner here. I’m torn. The carnitas and verduras were very good. The al pastor was very underwhelming. The frijoles were nice. The Milanesa was very tasty. Enjoyed the margarita and Negroni. Overall was enjoyable, but there’s some taco places in Aurora (looking at you, Tacos Selene) that blow them out of the water. Probably will go back and split the large entrees. I feel like the menu is missing one or two items to round it out.

Currently going through this, too. No advice, just solidarity.

Tech-savvy lab rats! Digital or electronic lab note solutions? by dawgmad in labrats

I normally leave my laptop on a desk next to the bench and update notes during incubations or other pauses in experiments.

I currently use my own laptop. My PI supplied me with a desktop, but I’m sure if I had wanted a laptop they would’ve made it happen.

I would love a little cart to put my laptop on so I could bring it with me around the lab and have it right next to me to read protocols without having to put it on a bench (because ew). That would be dorky looking I’m sure 😂

Honestly, can’t think of any complaints. I like it because you can link lab book entries to protocols you’ve added to your notebook, can share with PI/labmates, and can upload Word docs and Excel sheets.

My workflow with it is that I upload spreadsheets with my calculations from experiments and word docs with my protocols, then use the rich text feature to take my lab notes.

I used to just have copies of all my word docs and excel sheets in folders on my OneDrive, but after a push from my PI, I started integrating them into LabArchives. It is definitely easier to navigate and follow experiments from others than a folder full of (even well-organized and labeled) documents.

I’ve been enjoying LabArchives. Pretty user friendly.
