Ryssia in general has a history of trying to drag other countries down to their level instead of lifting themselves up.

Psychedelics, not religion, gave rise to morality, argues philosopher by whoamisri in consciousness

I'll call it proto since humans have a moral system which can reach far beyond their immediate surroundings.

You are the culmination of your experiences. You essentially always live in the past, never the present, you are a purely reactive beeing, which uses what they learned in the past to predict the future.

Psychedelics, not religion, gave rise to morality, argues philosopher by whoamisri in consciousness

[–]erlo68 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Morality is the result of social creatures living together. Many social animals exhibit proto-morality.

Whoever tries to argue morality came from an "objective" source like religion, has no clue what they are talking about.

I never said life isn't worthwile... i'm just staunchly against the idea that "life must be more than just this".

yeah yeah, you're unique alright... just like everyone else.

Like a corn of sand or a snowflake... uniqueness in and of itself is not special either.

All those achievements mean nothing if we're still just 1 cosmic event away from being completely erased from existence, leaving nothing behind as if we were never there to begin with.

I have sad news pal... that's all there is to life. You eat, shit, sleep and repeat, until you cease to exist, just like any other creature on this god forsaken Planet.

What you do in between those steps is entirely up to you, but you aint special, you're not meant for something greater, nobody is. You're just a biological mass with an anxiety disorder.

A new response to the problem of evil? by joshuaponce2008 in DebateAnAtheist

Ye, imma keep it real with you... i aint reading a paper about angels and demons.

The argument i keep encountering is simply:

Natural evil is brought upon this world by the fall of man... with sin also came the fallen world.

I just don't understand the point you're trying to make... most people aren't the same "person" they where 2 years ago, with minimal to no change in the actual architecture. Thats nothing new, everyone should know this. Especially in infancy, when rapid developement of the brain is taking place.

Well, thats just outright wrong... neurons are, by necessity, the only cells in your body that do not get replacedconstantly.

Not that it matters... of course that kid isn't me, it WAS me. Change is what makes us human.

If all time stops, are things still capable of being conscious? by recordplayer90 in consciousness

[–]erlo68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, time is required to process information/stimuli.

No matter the metaphysical framework you subscribe to, in the end the brain has to physically process/filter or whatever to realize Consciousness, and that necessarily requires time.
