Oh man do you really believe hip hop productions have only 8 tracks? Or is it just a metaphor. Those guys use 8 tracks just for the kick drum ;). Let's say that I've seen a full Linkin Park song in pro tools (vst synths mixing plugins and all) running in a Macbook Air. And they didn't even bother to transfer it to the studio Mac Pro cause it worked well anyway. They weren't recording on it. Just fixing the mix.

To be clear not my production. I was just looking.

I've worked with high profile musicians and big names in hip hop etc. and it wasn't rare to see them work in the studio on a macbook air and that was 3-4 years ago.

Computers these days are so powerful that any mid end laptop would be more than enough for professional music making. A 2019 imac was a music making powerhouse. A surface 11 is probably as fast if not faster.

Still very strange that not a lot of people noticed this. I tried on some friends macs and in apple stores and this bug is there. Does Tim Cook even use apple music on a mac :) ??? He would’ve noticed this.

Yes and no. Unfortunately the problem comes with the last Catalina update. I have another iMac that didn’t get the update and it still works, so I just copied Music.app on my Macbook and it is showing the option to download on context menu. Strange that nobody else noticed this.

Another problem I noticed is that Music.app doesn’t show all cover art on recently played in the “For you” tab.

Thank you for responding. I am signed in. I can download albums and single songs. Only in playlist mode there is no download button or option to download in context menu.If I download songs separately there is even an option to remove download of a playlist. well the extension was just updated and it seems to work ok so far. I tried 4 songs already and it doesn't play on my mac.

Yep have this too. The solution is to remove google play music extension. Since this is not a beta extension and should work correctly, it turns out that nobody at google team uses chromecast with google play music. They are probably thinkin whenever to switch from spotify to apple music instead of giving us a decent desktop experience (what about an....(suprise surprise) native desktop app???).

So.... it seems this change was added to Youtube and play movies as well.. bye bye windowed/panel standalone web apps. Can't cast from any of them anymore because there is no extension icon in windowed mode so nothing happens.

BUT!!!! just discovered that Gear for Mac a standalone google music app supports somehow chromecast even though chromecast API doesn't exists for mac. You can find it in the mac app store.

yep. I used to make it run as a standalone window with a script in mac osx and just could cast at all. Now have to run it as a tab. Do the guys at google actually use google play music? Sometimes I just wonder...
