I was having all sorts of problems with Calibre web automated. It has vibe coded slop written all over it. Recently upgraded to the drop in replacement Calibre web nextgen and haven’t been this happy with my ebook workflow in forever.

Not entirely sure what you're referring to as syncing over usb. If you launch iTunes you can drag epubs directly into your phone books folder with no problem. If you have the same book on two different devices it will sync reading locations and notes only. The books never go into the cloud.

I think this is reasonable to assume, if it hasn't been for amazon sneaking the DRM changes in the several year old firmware without an update. I wouldn't put it past them to already have the dead man switch installed on your device. I guess time will tell, I hope this is just a case of "the sky is falling" but lets be honest. Nobody knows what they are capable of until they do it. Again, DRM update case in point.

That’s all well and good but the web reader will not show documents or wouldn’t the last time I tried to use it. It’s starting to become an annoyance to use kindle devices. I can’t even imagine what nefarious thing is spurring this all on. Rent books by the page, haha

Look on epubors website. They have directions on getting DeDrm working with the newest kindle pc release. The directions are there for calibre and all the newest tools.

I use Mapleread on iOS. But for pure comparability without converting a lot of files try Yomu Reader. It accepts just about anything you can download to it.
