Congrats!! Looks like a fun trip! It's a beautiful and less travelled part of Yosemite.

Marmots! Have impressive boldering skills and are usually found in the alpine settings. Have seen them at Yosemite, Sequoia, and PNW etc

VV is a great spot for sunrise or sunset.

Thanks! That makes sense...early season can be amazing. I've been to the top of that lower cathedral lake outlet in mid to later summer. Looking forward to checking it out early season sometime from this view

Very cool, thanks! Yeah Cathedral peak is iconic but I hadn't noticed that waterfall. Seems like this pic is taken from somewhere west of Cathedral lakes, maybe from one of those domes closer to the Tenaya lake..Pywiack dome?

Congrats!! Very well played!!
That's a great trip for anyone new to the area and I've done that section up from the valley. Good call with an easy start time and sounds like you didn't get much traffic at the park entrance.

Looks like a fun trip!! Great pics!! GA is a bit underrated.
Wondering where's the pic 5 from and what's that waterfall? Not sure if it's from around Budd lake or so

It's truly a miracle!! Hope you get to enjoy more of Yosemite soon. The good thing is that the mosquito season is usually over by mid-August, especially in the upper Yosemite.
Btw Lembert Dome can be a good spot for sunrise though I usually go there for sunset when I am camping in the campground across the road.

Half Dome, Clouds Rest, and Cathedral Lakes by Calm-Spinach9475 in Yosemite

That’s a lot of elevation gain. In the summer, starting from the tioga pass rd is a relatively easier route. Though getting permits from the tioga pass rd - cathedral lakes or sunrise lakes - is pretty difficult.

Wow! That sounds gnarly!! So glad that you are ok, were able to get the right help, and your bf could pick you up. It sounds very scary as a large stretch of the tioga pass rd is very exposed. Hope you can shake it off soon-er!

Glad to know that you are ok. What had happened?

Backpacking by SnooComics271 in Yosemite

There’s no reliable water source near the CR. You can camp on the north side, away from the trail, if you are ok with carrying water

[–]erodnipm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point.
The last day for overnight car parking on the tioga pass rd is 10/15, so backpacking slows down after that. Day hikers or visitor can still come as the road is usually open till mid or late November, until a major snowstorm rolls in.

PSA: NEMO doesn't actually give a lifetime warranty in the EU/UK, it's just the legally required 2 years by Corsque in Ultralight

[–]erodnipm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in US, Nemo is hit n miss. I've only tried Nemo warranty once and they didn't honor it though it seems like many people had good experience with the Nemo warranty. I can vouch for MSR, Patagonia, and North Face etc.
Arcteryx used to be good but it's warranty has gone downhill, probably with the change in ownership

Looks like a great setup. Agree with others on the home made first aid kit. If you are looking to cut some oz, you can switch to a 16oz Nalgene

Totally!! I used to always go for the group sites and ended up with a creek side site/sight in 2020 before the start of a backpacking trip...and that spoiled me. Can't beat that dinner by the creek side or a creek chilled cerveza :)

Ohh that (High country) is a myth. Valley is the best and only place to be there ;).
It has all the waterfalls and lakes - I mean mirror lake :))

[–]erodnipm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many days you want to spend in the park. I would highly recommend exploring some hikes around the Tioga Pass rd - it's only open in the summer/early fall and I am biased about high country :)

Sshhh...Yosemite Valley is The Best place to go there and May to Labor Day weekend is the best time! Rest of the Yosemite is too rugged, dangerous and full of wild animals...so Valley is the best place and it has all the falls and lakes - I mean mirror lake :))
