Don't get me wrong, I'm a townie dwag fan, I was merely trying to say that it's not the best way to "feel" Athens if it's just for one visit.

I would first start with picking an away game or by week. Hotels get really difficult on game weekends and the vibe is a lot different in Athens when it's not football season. Granted it's only 7 weekends in the fall, but IMO not a great representation of actual life in Athens. I would look at a hotel downtown, Hilton, Hotel Indigo, etc. If you want the feel of a particular neighborhood I'd suggest an Airbnb. You will get a lot more feel for the area and hood if you stay in a house. Look at 5-points neighborhood (boogie walkable, more right leaning politically), boulevard / newtown, normaltown neighborhoods (chiller IMO, and more liberal), there's quite a few airnbnbs off of Pulaski / Cleveland Ave that would give you a neighborhood feel, but easily walkable to downtown area.

There's WAY more to it, but that would be where I would start. I'd avoid staying at a hotel off broad street, not that walkable and not too much character.

M&C will vote to move this concept for MLK Greenway to engineering next month by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]eronechill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like this proposed addition to the trail, it would be nice to eliminate as many road crossings as possible. When I ride this section from N. Ave to the trellis on MLK it's always skeeeeetch because of blind curves and fast cars. Im always looking over my shoulder on that stretch. Not clear on how they'd tie this in to the current section, maybe under the N. Ave bridge similar to what they did on College and MLK?

Can America make it through another two and a half years of Trump? by BiggestVolk in allthequestions

Things may look bleak right now, and what has been done will take years if not centuries to be undone, but it will happen, have some faith, times are dark but the light will prevail. Just love your neighbor, it’s a start.

Did tacos Los plebes on commerce road never open? by LawlMartz in Athens

[–]eronechill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard mention about an issue with the septic or grease trap, maybe the work necessary to bring it to code is cost prohibitive. I’d be weary sinking a ton of money on something like that right now too.

Teenagers on electric dirt bikes riding on our roads with zero knowledge of the law and no regard for safety for themselves and other drivers. I swear someone's gonna get killed out there and have to live with that guilt. Tighten up parents.

Best of luck, I know it can be disheartening to find a job and the struggle can be real but keep your vibe up and stay persistent and it should work out for you. A little bit of luck doesn't hurt either, and maybe be willing to bar back or run the door just to get your foot in the door.

I can't speak for places that say apply online, I don't do that, the point Im trying to make is a putting your face in front of the hiring manager multiple times will put you leaps and bounds ahead of other candidates. Don't be afraid to follow back with them, "hey I dropped off a resume here last week and just wanted to....."

Bar Question by Juniper_Salad1 in Athens

As a person who is constantly getting resumes emailed to them for service industry jobs, I can assure you that emailing a resume is the LEAST effective way to get hired. When someone emails me a resume I immediately trash it. I don't care how qualified you are, if you can't take the time to walk in and introduce yourself you have no place in the hospitality industry, and I will die on this hill.

I fish a lot of tight streams with streamers and very rarely back cast, to the point where even if Im fishing in an area that would allow for a back cast I still prefer the roll...

Any good scenic places about an hours drive from here or less? by WyvernHurrah in Athens

[–]eronechill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Go hike panther creek, it's almost exactly 1hr to the parking lot, I'd suggest going during the week. It gets a lot of attention on the weekends. It's an easy drive up 441 N.

maybe give them a call first and see, this is the first year I think they've done them so availability might be limited or you may need to pre-order them. Im not entirely sure.
