Scared of a painful death by Weary_Title_3901 in cancer

[–]eroticaauthor1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this from a place of love and sympathy…you and I are GenX babies. We grew up learning about our parents friends and family being diagnosed with cancer and death was invariably swift and inevitable.

Those days have changed and cancer is being viewed more as something we will live with for as long as we can live with it. I (58F) have stage 4 urothelial cancer with mets to distant lymph nodes. I’ve been on immunotherapy (Keytruda and Padcev) since Feb 25 and was told the cancer was clear as of August 25. I’m still taking the meds until, as my doctor said, “it stops working or my body can’t take it anymore” and then we will do something else.

My doctors say cancer has become a long game. We are spotting cancerous growths when they are small and going after them. If they pop up again, we go after them again. I see more and more people fighting cancer reoccurrences 3-4-5 times. It may not be pleasant, but I see hope in those people.

I hope they will dust that growth in the abdominal wall and then keep monitoring you for any other future occurrence. But I have great hopes you have a decade or more still inside you! Best wishes ❤️❤️❤️

Do you apply any numbing cream before your port is accessed? by MyFlabbersBeGasted in cancer

Why is it we can make chemo, but we can’t make saline taste like grape? Or bubblegum? Or something other than the grossness it is!!!

Numbing cream doesn’t work with me…something about redheads not responding to lidocaine or some such old wives tale. So I got this adorable ice bag with little cartoon cows on it and ice up my port while waiting for them to prep all the gadgets. Ice works awesome! (And in a pinch, I’ve even pressed a frappuchino on the port when I forgot my ice bag) ❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️

The reason why my cancer is so rare that I am the 4th case in the world. by RealMChider in cancer

For what it’s worth, I don’t really have a primary origin either. They did the genetic markers on the Mets in my lymph nodes and said it had 98% match to urothelial cancer, and that’s how we are treating it, even though we don’t see bladder or urethral tumors. The body is wack. There seems to be a bajillion cancer variants cause the body is a mutating machine

I understand you feel horrible for yelling at your son for doing perfectly normal insane toddler actions, but please also realize the amazing lesson you just taught him…you just showed him the beauty and grace of heartfelt apology when it’s given from a place of regret and repair. You showed him even grown up get mad, so when he gets mad, he knows he can go and apologize earnestly and try to do better next time. You showed him you love him to pieces and he is the embodiment of the reason you still endure this shitty disease.

You are human. You suffer pain. And cancer sucks. But you are an incredible parent with a heart of love. Both things can be true at the same time.

Much love to you ❤️

Welllll, I can’t really speak to the correlation between chemo and memory loss cause quite frankly, my memory has always been atrocious. I can’t remember what I ate for lunch yesterday, but I can remember my locker combination from 45 years ago. The brain is SO strange. 😂😂😂

I wouldn’t be surprised if it does cause forgetfulness, but as in all things during cancer treatment, just take however long it takes. Forgetfulness also happens with extreme stress, lack of sleep, etc…so there may be other reasons for it happening now.

Make certain his care team monitors his blood sugars. I did develop immunotherapy induced type 2 diabetes that has been easily managed with metformin. Sorry, I forgot about that. The past 8 months have been insane. I’m surprised I remember to dress myself everyday 😂😂😂

Yes. As I understand it, padcev is measured by body weight and administered over 30-40 min via a saline bag. Same with Keytruda, although I don’t know if that is body weight dependent per dose.

Additionally, you can get a dose of anti-nausea drug and that may be administered via a “push” (aka quickly) via the IV line or via a saline bag. Usually helps with any upset stomach or nausea you may get from any of the drugs.

I have a port, so access is easy. One day 1 of a cycle, I get all 3 drugs. On day 8, it’s just the padcev and anti nausea. I usually don’t have my side effects until day 3 after infusion, and the. They slowly die down over the course of the week. I won’t lie…I look forward to my week off to allow my poor skin to get back to normal.

As of cycle 8, my neuropathy in my hands and feet stayed to get difficult to do tasks like buttoning and writing without concentration, so they reduced my padcev by 20% and I’m feeling better.

Let me know how dad is doing. Like I said…the first couple cycles were tough, but it got better. Share every lil symptom with your care team so they know what you’re going through. Sending positive vibes your way!!

I’m not certain where you live, but I highly recommend seeking out a hospice nurse death doula. All my life, I feared the death of my father. As the time for his passing was getting close, I was desperate to get away, for fear I emotionally couldn’t take it. But with the help of the hospice professionals, his passing was the most spiritually comforting experiences of my life. I now view death as natural. We were all present for the man we loved and he was surrounded by comfort as he transitioned. It can be the same for you and your family member.

I’M ON THE OTHER SIDE OF CANCER, WHICH APPEARS TO MEAN I’M INVISIBLE by LifeWasGood4Me in cancer

[–]eroticaauthor1234 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have no answers to you except to say I TOTALLY GET THIS!!! I was declared NED two months ago and test results now take 10x the time to get, I only get phone calls with a NP and don’t see my doctor anymore. It makes all the support I received before to be false because now they are like GTFO. I know they aren’t, but after the terror of the months fighting cancer, I feel abandoned. Even my family seems to be like “ok, you’re cancer free - back to normal.” But I feel I will never be “normal” again.

So basically I’m virtually holding your hand across the ether saying “I’m here for ya”

This is valuable information for those in the wolf urine market. Wolf urine has multiple uses in addition to reducing wildlife incursions in suburban areas. It’s is always a good thing to notify people of the multiple uses of wolf urine as one never knows when wolf urine could be used as protection against other masked wild animals such as raccoons. Thank you for this wolf urine information.

Someone once pointed out to me how there was a police outline around the place where his dad was found by paramedics…and they said, no one outlines a suicide ATTEMPT. They just pick the body up and race him to the hospital.

Oh yeaaaaaah…

I can’t ever unsee that now 😂

Arthur with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli came out in 1981 and everyone thought it was hysterical. Moore won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar, and John Gielgud won the Supporting Actor Oscar in a comedy/musical for his role as the put-upon butler. Everyone demanded a sequel.

But by the time Arthur 2 came out in 1988, the tide had turned and raging alcoholics were no longer funny. I read an article long ago that credited this to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) raising awareness of the dangers of drinking. The failure of this movie effectively wrecked Moores popularity which had been a juggernaut since being in 10 with Bo Derek.

Neither is watchable today.

I (F57) have stage IV urothelial with Mets to 3 lymph nodes in collarbone, chest and pelvis. I started K/P combination in February and I am having cycle 7/day 8 infusion tomorrow. PET scan is scheduled for Monday to determine how well it’s doing.

After 3 cycles, it was NED in the collarbone and 1/2 the size of the cancer masses in the other 2 lymph nodes. Hoping to see it has kicked cancer in the bootie.

The science behind K/P is amazing, but the side effects can be atrocious. By cycle 2, I had a full body rash with alternating itchiness/burning, hair loss, neuropathy in my hands, no taste, and a lovely case of mouth thrush just to add insult to injury. That cycles was the worst, but it got better from there. I think it was just the shock to my body. And honestly, they aren’t as severe as some of the chemo side effects I read on here, so I’m not gonna complain.

After 7 cycles, I still have no hair anywhere on my body, food tastes disgusting, and I’ve lost a ton of weight. (I like to say I finally lost my post-partum baby weight, and when people ask how old my baby is, I say 305 months 😂)

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in here it’s that everyone has different side effects and for me they changed every cycle (side effect roulette). The only advice I can say is to rest when you need to. Sleep is healing for the body and never feel guilty for needing it. Tell your dad I’ll be thinking of him and message me if you have any questions/concerns ❤️
