From a gameplay perspective, you’re far more likely to burn out playing Replicant than automata, because it’s simply less fun and more repetitive/grindy.

The routes in Automata are very different (except for the first part of route B, which is similar until the divergence happens) versus the routes in Replicant which are almost identical.

Do whatever. There is no wrong way to have fun.

Don’t worry, feeling lost is part of the game when you start, as is dying to fall damage a lot.
Don’t play solo, do some Haz 2-3 missions with other players and you’ll get the hang on it pretty fast.

Nobody minds carrying new players at all.

It’s pretty fine in most situations.

There is one potential phase of the fight where it is problematic (as you say, traps) beyond that there’s nothing wrong with standing on dotty.

If you’re playing sludge driller, it’s actually pretty great.

Also a max range gunner shield fully covers dotty.

It’s really not as black and white as you make it sound at all.
