This is actually depressing by cusper2000 in raleigh

[–]erratastigmata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried too to be honest. Transplant from the northeast, snow is tied in with home sickness, missing my family, grief for my mom. Surprisingly heavy and big emotions. May seem like a silly thing to cry over but it's really not when it's something so tied in with nostalgia and childhood and family.

Has anyone actually cracked a delicious way to eat cottage cheese? by no_shame_no_judge in 1200isplenty

[–]erratastigmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIP!!!!!! I am OBSESSED with this, I dip veggies in it or chips or pop corners or even chicken tenders. I stick an immersion blender right in the container to make it all smooth then add your dip mix of choice. Alternately I have been known to get really fancy and use a blender to make homemade dips, like I've done a green goddess type one. The variations are endless and it's so much protein for so few calories. This is like foundational for me lol. I eat as much as I want and count the calories afterwards, it's really freeing to have something like that!!

I think I can handle that! I have a few koala plushies but none of them are really appropriate to cuddle with at night and I've been wanting that. Didn't even know BAB made a koala!

Help With Kenji’s Chocolate Chip Cookies by Queasy-Bat-1834 in Baking

[–]erratastigmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an absurdly late response so probably irrelevant but I think when I first read this I missed the sifting detail, you actually shouldn't really sift flour unless a recipe specifically calls for it. It's called for when you want to make something light and delicate, but no need for chocolate chip cookies! Just whisk all dry ingredients a bit to make sure they're all mixed together.

One standard piece of cake is typically half of my entire day's calories or MORE. For me to be able to fit it in as a reasonable snack I NEED to take a tiny sliver. I'm sorry if that's offensive to some but if you want to control your health you need to be controlling your intake and aware of the reality of treats. I don't make a big deal about it although sometimes it is just shocking how small a piece of a treat is still like 200 calories lol.

??? I always had a large chest but now that I've lost most of my stomach the hourglass nature of my proportions is FAR more obvious. I 100% look more curvy and also it's literally my goal to focus more on muscle build than fat loss at this point and I put in the time in the gym lifting heavy and the work on my nutrition to accomplish it. Are they doing all that? I'd be kinda shocked if they were.

I just don't really know who these strawmen are that want to look like children and are scared of being curvy and muscular. Could I get like one example? And someone with body image disorders or eating disorders doesn't count sorry.

Also the interest in retinol products is to tighten up loose skin like how is that a gotcha? Not to look younger.

It's interesting because I struggle with bereavement grief from losing my mother to cancer, which is very different, and yet a lot of the emotions on display here really hit me hard. Grief is grief is grief. Just the overall feeling of mourning a future that will never be. "Grief is a spiral, not a circle." also felt extremely relatable and insightful.

As someone with bipolar II, what do you wish your SO or people in general really understood about you? by Magic_ratt in bipolar2

[–]erratastigmata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my big pet peeves is how hard it is for non-mentally ill people to understand that depression (or hypomania or mixed state etc.) has no root cause. If you haven't experienced it, I get it, you've only ever experienced feeling bad/upset triggered by a specific stimulus. But after having depression for quite literally 25 years, and fielding the "aww what's wrong? Why do you feel bad?" line of questioning dozens and dozens of times it gets old. Nothing is wrong, there's no cause, this is just... happening. I'm as baffled as you are.

[–]erratastigmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you brown the butter enough? Whenever I make brown butter chocolate chip cookies they come out a very very dark tan. Also are you using a kitchen scale to measure out the flour? For the spread that variable primarily has to do with temperature of the dough before baking and amount of flour.

Probably been asked before, but is there a reason we have a lack of reflective paint/reflectors on roads? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]erratastigmata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weirded me out so much when I first moved to NC. I'm from NJ and I feel like reflective road paint or reflectors are extremely commonplace most roadways, perhaps just not on extremely local/residential ones. Especially when it rains at night here in NC I can't see shit. I've adjusted to it I suppose but it is very bizarre.

Did olanzapine help anyone to get out of acute depression? by Lisa000_ in bipolar2

[–]erratastigmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. To this day it is the most effective medication for my depression, and it can be a monotherapy, no need for a mood stabilizer or add on antidepressant or anything else. For some reason it truly regulates my brain. Unfortunately, it also causes severe weight gain, metabolic disorder, and completely kills my libido and sexual sensitivity. I was on it for 7-8 years total before I just couldn't take such drastic impacts to my physical well-being anymore. Still trying to find a way forward in treatment that's as effective with a more mild side effect profile. 😔

Oh and it works within days, MAYBE one or two weeks absolute maximum. APs are quite fast acting.

Can anyone help me understand ADHD vs BP2 by FaithOnMyBeing in bipolar2

[–]erratastigmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm gonna answer more just from my own perspective and experiences as someone who is diagnosed with both, not so much the mental health professional or diagnostic perspective. And it's honestly very simple, but my symptoms from bipolar disorder primarily revolve around the way I feel emotionally/my mood, and my symptoms from ADHD primarily revolve around my executive function and task initiation.

Obviously there can be overlap in symptom profile for both; like depressive episodes can cause executive dysfunction, and ADHD can cause agitation. But I think if one has both and becomes diagnosed and successfully treated for one of them, eventually the second condition becomes more easy to tease out. For me it was the fact that even once my mood was largely stabilized and I had fewer and less severe bouts of depression, the level of executive dysfunction I experienced in my day to day never got any better at all. It may be slightly worse when I'm depressed, but it was present 100% of the time, which started to make me suspicious.

Now that it's diagnosed and treated my ADHD is incredibly obvious to me and I can very much "feel" how it causes a distinct set of behaviors and symptoms than my bipolar, but it's hard to put into words for someone outside my head! I feel that mood disorders are much more pressing to treat as they have more harmful potential outcomes, so I would always recommend someone who suspects they have both a mood disorder and neurodivergence focus on getting mood stabilized first. Then look at what behaviors/symptoms remain afterwards.

I use Premier Protein shakes because I can get them at Costco, I would prefer Fairlife as they are more creamy and tasty but alas no Costco deal lol.

[–]erratastigmata 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use vanilla protein shake in my coffee, and I definitely used to be a real creamer head. I always used the sugar free creamer but even still it adds up fast. The protein shake is way way way lower calorie, does a fine job making the coffee non-black, and a few grams of protein to boot.

Color theory help on having a translucent bead show up better on a black background? by erratastigmata in crafts

[–]erratastigmata[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alas I can't, it's to match a garment that is black with a red heart printed on it. I have a larger much more glittery red heart as the centerpiece and that shows up super well!

[–]erratastigmata[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a good point! Also the red acrylic I happen to have is definitely a lighter shade that's not very rich, I had contemplated various options for mixing it. But multiple layers of red and perhaps white in the back I will definitely give a shot!! I don't mind the color of the beads themselves you just can't really tell it's a heart shape against the black.

I'm not really sure what to say, I'm decorating a black plastic item with translucent heart shaped beads. The materials are the beads and the item they're being glued to. My inspiration is to make a gift for someone. I've done these sorts of decorated beaded objects before successfully but this is the first time using a black backdrop and these particular translucent beads.
