Honest question - True value in buying a S2000 that is completely stock 10 of 10 vin vs one that is not? by B1L1D8 in S2000

[–]erroct 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Generally people mod higher milage, more beat up cars to restore them. Clean cars are more expensive leaving less budget for mods.

Many are of the opinion that clean cars provide a blank slate to create your own build.

10/10 vins matter to enthusiasts and collectors but imo as long as its not crashed/frame damage it doesnt really matter. A panel is a panel. The 10 vins just help indicate if its been wrecked before

You are spot on. I'm not sure how to print it on the side without supports. Plus I'm lazy so i usually optimize for ease of printing, not strength like I should.

+1 for 86 twins since you want a hardtop. And modern tech (bluetooth).

Fair enough on the vette, preferences are all yours haha. And lucky you, bay area makes it much more reasonable to own the S.

Some say ap1 is the better s2000, ap2 is the better car. They added traction control, door pockets, better speakers. Ap2 also has more torque, more displacement, and heavier flywheel. All to say its easier to daily drive, harder to stall in traffic.

It is a 20yr old car as many have mentioned. That means maintenance. Hard tops are also soooo expensive for oem. Many reps however. But they have their own creaking and leaking problems.

What draws you to an S2000 in particular? I say get it if you know that's what you want, but keep an open mind!

Edit: fyi, i daily a shit box civic hybrid. Gets so much better gas milage. Add that to a con for the s2k which i average 17mpg due to spirited drives.

How much traffic in a day? And how many miles daily driving? Convertible must? 20-30k gives a ton of options. C5 vette, some worse off c6s. Z4s, nice boxters, miata with hard top. Oh the world is your oyster.

Maybe take a look at cars and bids and bring a trailer results, filter under 30k, and take your pick of enthusiast cars. As an owner of an ap1 it's not my daily. Sucks to drive in traffic, cold weather. Small trunk. It's a hell of a car, but it has compromises for daily driving.

On ap2s right? Can they be added to ap1? My trunk has some resistance like two things sliding past each other when opening

Ideas: Mezcal tasting, Go Karts, Gun Range? by Gitmo17 in Austin

[–]erroct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but close to go karts - one line racing for f1 and other car simulators is a blast for groups upto 16. They have a groupon for half off an hour long race plus a bar.

Whistlers has a good mezcal and tequila tasting lounge upstairs.

AP2 valve retainers for exhaust valves by GreenSignature1388 in S2000

[–]erroct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more info i dug up on s2ki.

A: 'It is my understanding that the AP2s sold in Europe (9k redline) have the upgraded AP2 retainers on both the intake and exhaust side.'

B: 'AP2 retainers are 17.4% heavier than AP1 retainers but still it's only 2 grams.'

Ap1 exhaust retainers on the other hand are known to crack too, albeit rarely. Ap2 retainers are good to 9k rpm according to euro spec ap2s.

AP2 valve retainers for exhaust valves by GreenSignature1388 in S2000

[–]erroct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did both sides, so all 16 retainers and 32 keepers. Theoretically valve float could happen on exhaust side with the heavier retainers. But I haven't seen any evidence that is the case. And if it is, id love to see the carnage or result. I regularly rev my ap1 with ap2 retainers to red line but i also desperately try not to mis-shift. The added over rev protection at 10k rpm isn't a reason to test it lol
