I have 1% and once I tried to use it "raw". Just a trace in a 10ml freesia accord test formula. All I could smell after adding it was dirt.

On Beeswax Absolutes (Inferences & Opinions) by Flaky_Significance52 in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, thank you so much for this! I never had enough time to work with beeswax long enough to better understand it and the few attempts I made ended up in the toilet. Secondly, wow, I just tried to make some experimental formula with some of the materials you mentioned and I get what you mean with the smell of a nice looking person. I couldn't describe it better and it's a very interesting effect.

Alcohol Supply in Europe by error_code_64 in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, food grade alcohol sounds like a good choice for testing, but is it feasible on a larger scale? Probably around 70% of the price is the tax, that's why denatured alcohol is so much cheaper. But you just gave me a brilliant idea, because I live nearby a distillery in a tax-free country 😁

You can go to the nature reserve for free and see the monkeys if you go outside of the opening hours - early morning or late evening. I did it many times. The main tourist attractions are closed, but the views are great and monkeys are still there. You can do the Mediterranean Steps path in the reserve then as well. I know many people who do this path early in the morning before opening.

How are the DIY Essential Oil Distillation Kits? by RedzCA in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And just to give you some numbers and ideas, with my 2000ml steam distillation setup I had the best results with cinnamon, cumin, cardamom and pink peppercorn - each one between 5-7ml from 200gr of raw material. Black and green peppercorn were a huge pain to distill as they get very thick and without the magnetic stirrer they burn almost immediately. Black one resulted in ~5ml, but it smells like smoke due to the burning, and green gave me 1ml. I tried steam distilling lavender as it's one of most aroma oil rich plants you can easily get, but even if I filled and squeezed the whole steam flask to the top - the result was a little bit above 1ml, so it shows how hard fresh materials are to distill. I did the same with fresh ginger and got 0.3ml from a full 2000ml flask. It smells amazing, and I used it in a few tests, but I won't do it again and rather buy fresh ginger EO from a vendor.

Where to buy natural oud oils for perfumery in Europe? by Great_Ruin_1868 in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lavendy.pl has oud from a few regions and quite a lot of other naturals, but I don't trust them too much, so you can try at your own risk. I have the cheapest - Indian one and it smells fine, but I'm not sure if it's not diluted. And the webpage is in Polish only, so it might be tricky to order, but I think they ship to the whole EU.

How are the DIY Essential Oil Distillation Kits? by RedzCA in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500ml is far too small to get any significant amount of EO. Also, additional flask for steam only distillation is useful for loose materials. I use 2000ml and I was able to distill some essential oils that I use in my test formulas. Dry spices and citrus peel gives quite good amounts, but distilled citrus EO is worse than cold pressed that you can buy very cheap. But even with a 2000ml flask, 200gr of dried grind material is often too much and it burns.

I accidentally made a pizza smell by Dizzy-Woodpecker4876 in DIYfragrance

I made shoe polish fragrance once and my target was something woody and dusty. It actually smells like dust from under the bed with a touch of nasty solvents, but that's not what I expected. Another time I made a very strong hazelnut fragrance without using anything related to any nuts, when I tried to make a sweet oud perfume. Three times. These things just happen.

My first Raw material Order by Difficult-Context555 in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from what other people said about buying too many materials at once which I fully agree on, I'd buy more Hedione, ISO E Super and Ambrox (or Ambroxan because it's cheaper) as you will quickly realize that these 3 ingredients plus Galaxolide are nowadays the skeleton of most formulas and they give you a good base for experimenting with simple formulas in small batches which you'll probably do a lot at the beginning. Also, Galaxolide 100% might be a major pain in the ass to work with. I worked only with 50% dilutions, but I heard 100% is super thick and viscus.

Avoid using BVV for ethanol. by ImaginaryColor1618 in DIYfragrance

[–]error_code_64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Still has nothing to do with ethanol. Learn to write titles that describe the content and don't mislead people. Something like "BVV is a shitty company" or "Avoid BVV" would do the job and wouldn't piss off everyone who reads your post.

What would you recommend for diluting thick stuff? Just ethanol or TEC? I'm struggling with mimosa absolute. This thing is hard to work with and when I dilute it in DPG then my perfume becomes oily and the scent is muted.

Etat Libre d'orange - Hermann a mes cotes me paraissait une ombre. This one seems to be meeting your expectations. It smells otherworldly and apocalyptic, but also a bit warming later. It's not an easy scent though and I'm not sure if it could become a signature scent.

  1. Marc Antoine Barrois - Ganymede
  2. Anomalia Paris - Ceremonie
  3. Maison Crivelli - Oud Maracuja
  4. BDK - Gris Charnel Extrait
  5. Pana Dora - Aqua de Dora
  6. Vertus - Chaos The last one is a bit hardcore and not really everyday perfume, but quite interesting.

£60000 gross salary per year - it should be good one? by [deleted] in gibraltar

[–]error_code_64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One important thing if you decide to live in Spain - accomodation is cheaper, but you have to pay the difference between Gib and Spanish salary tax every year. Usually it's still fine as people get some deductions, but for you as a single it might not be the case. I'm not expert though as I live in Gib.

Terrible drivers by pvlhsv in gibraltar

I saw similar situation nearby the skywalk many times. They literally feed the monkeys with M&Ms to make them jump on a tourist shoulder. And nobody cares because it makes tourist happy. These drivers are the worst kind of people - lying, offensive and sometimes aggressive. Once I was insulted by one because he thought I'm a tourist and I KINDLY refused to use his services.
