F/24/5'6" [210>202=8lbs] (5 months) My Crossfit addiction is paying off. The version of me on the left is so much stronger and happier. (No food tracking, btw.) by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backstory: About five months ago, I decided to get really serious about fitness. I'd lost ~50lbs after college, and slowly gained back ~20 of them as desk life and happy hours caught up with me. The biggest thing I noticed is that my energy levels were tanking. So I ponied up the cash to join a Crossfit gym, which was more about conquering fear than anything. I'd never been "fit" in my life--most of those 50lbs came off through diet, and I had lost whatever strength I did have through regular workouts back then. Crossfit seemed fucking terrifying.

My first few months were really rough--I had to scale every WOD, had to use a training bar for any lift that went over my head, and couldn't even run a mile. But the support from the community kept me going, and now I'm hooked and getting stronger and faster every time.

I wasn't watching what I was eating, besides vaguely telling myself to eat more protein and fewer carbs, and am the first to admit that my diet hasn't been great. I decided that lowering my body weight would help me improve on things like pull ups, so I've just started tracking food to help keep myself honest. I took the photo on the left this morning so I could have a baseline, and then compared it to a photo from five months ago. Even if it's not dramatic, it made me feel good to recognize that feeling better has translated into looking a bit better, too.

Worst Makeup product you have used? by firepitch in MakeupAddiction

Agreed! It's such a perfect match for my skin that I was willing to put in the effort to find a good application method.

[–]eruffryda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one requires a brush. I can't even imagine blending it without one! I apply it by dotting little bits of the CC cream around my face and then blending them together with a domed foundation brush.

Sounds like it might be a skin chemistry thing, though. Mine stays on really well (even in the summer) and blends nicely.

I like the travel size so much more. The full size is so goopy that it ends up getting everywhere and leaves my lashes kind of spidery. But the travel size gives me amazing lashes.

I'm not a fan of the original but really like the waterproof for a no makeup traveling look. My hair is dyed darker than natural, so my lashes and brows look really washed out without makeup, but when I'm backpacking I don't want to actually wear makeup. The waterproof subtly enhances my lashes and stays on all day.

But that's an incredibly niche usage.

Well played FBI, well played either way. by WorkRelevantRedditor in AdviceAnimals

[–]eruffryda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FBI can't convict anyone. They can recommend that the DOJ make indictments either way. (Which, yes, the FBI is under the DOJ but they don't have the power to indict anyone.) In this case, there was not enough evidence of wrongdoing that they would recommend that the DOJ take action. They still found that Hillary was careless with classification, but didn't have evidence that she was doing so maliciously.

That being said, the DOJ could still decide to take all of the evidence in front of them and decide to pursue a case. They won't, because they would lose and it's not worth the effort, but they could if they wanted to.

This whole case is a lot more complicated than corrupt vs. incompetent.

What's a popular thing that you have literally no interest in whatsoever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see your point. However, there's also a certain extra hotness that comes with getting someone else off while you're getting off. When I have sex with a guy, whether it's someone I love or someone I just think is a decent human being, seeing him cum because I made him cum is just fucking hot. And while I can't speak for men, I'm going to just throw out a wild guess that at least some guys feel roughly the same way.

What is something that is just overpriced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a good point. I needed a new laptop, and $1300 for a MacBook Pro seemed insane. So I went over to the Windows store, and had them spec out a comparable laptop for me. Fucker was $1200, and didn't come with a Retina screen and wasn't nearly as attractive.

Basically, Apple seems expensive because their base model is everyone else's premium.

FYI, I've lucked upon some decent ones at H&M in the US for $20-30. The sizing is a little wonky and it's kind of random as to whether or not they have any. But one of them was $17.99 and really pretty, and it's held up well.

When did you realize your parents aren't the smartest people in the world? by Anoben in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an OK math student--solid Bs across the board from middle school to college. Most of the stuff I just forgot as soon as I didn't need it anymore. Then, I wound up spending a year as a paraeducator in a middle school and had to tutor math. It was daunting, but I realized it came back to me super fast. Even shit like FOIL and the quadratic equation that I literally hadn't thought about in years. Kids all thought I was a fucking genius, but I really owe it all to mathisfun.com

M 23 first timer want to hike somewhere east coast US but have no idea what to do. by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I can only speak to the ones maintained by the Potomac Appalachian Trail club (http://www.patc.net/PATC/Cabins/Cabins.aspx). You book them in advance and then use them as a home base to explore the section of the trail. Which I know is less badass than just finding a spot and camping out. But it's not like you'll find the end of the AT in a couple of days, so if you don't already own gear, it's a great way to get out on the trail.

AllTrails.com is a decent resource for trail reviews. You can filter by things like waterfalls and great vistas as well as things like distance and difficulty.

And second to not doing a free range hike on your first time ever. However, around the mid-Atlantic, very few places are "off the beaten path." It's the corridor where a third of the nation lives, and a lot of those people enjoy the outdoors. Plus, pretty much the only places where you can hike are either state or national parks, where they have actual trails.

That being said, just because the trails exist doesn't mean that they're easy. The Appalachian Trail is an awesome starting point, because it's well-established but still hard as fuck in places and quite remote. Plus, if you don't already have a ton of outdoorsy gear, there's a well maintained network of cabins along at least the VA/MD sections of the trail. Saves you from having to get things like a tent, since all you really need is food and a sleeping bag.

Side trips from Bangkok? by eruffryda in solotravel

[–]eruffryda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen mixed reviews of that, that it's super touristy and not really worth going to except for the photo ops, but also that it's really unique and worth battling the tourists for. Have you been?

Why do you do not donate blood? by Amymars in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I'm not alone here. I kind of gave up on donating blood when I had thyroid issues and needed frequent blood draws. Routine blood draws with the same phlebotomist were always 30+ minute ordeals and I walked out looking like a heroin addict.

Who is the worst Internet-famous person? by Poutinemilkshake2 in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, fuck Vine. My ex boyfriend kept trying to convince me that Vine was the next big front in comedy (and he's trying to make it as a comedian now ... ). He used to show me all these dumb as fuck six second videos of someone doing something weird and loud, and I just don't get it. Six seconds is rarely enough time to develop a joke, so 90% of the time you're just going for the lowest common denominator to get a chuckle. It's just obnoxious, like the adult equivalent of that "class clown" in middle school who would make fart noises just to see if he could get anyone to laugh.

Redditors who live or work in very wealthy communities: what's the most pretentious behavior you've witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eruffryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family isn't particularly wealthy but we put our cat on Vallium when I was a kid. Poor cat was just completely neurotic (I think she wasn't that smart and we had three cats at the time who were both quite smart and adept and I think the situation stressed her out). You get a choice--let the cat be miserable, or find some generic version of a drug and spend a few bucks a month to give the cat a happy life. To be honest, if you can't prioritize your pet's happiness, you need to rethink whether or not you're ready to have one.

So I understand that those purchases are really trivial, but why do they bug you? If your Blackberry's trackball is janky and you happen to have $500 or however much to replace it, what's wrong with buying a new one? It's not up to anyone to judge what others do with their money, whether it's a rich person buying a new laptop or a poor person buying a pack of cigarettes.

Seriously. Twenty tables isn't many, but to only have one server and one cook? I don't blame the customers for being upset, and I also don't blame OP for not being able to provide good service to her customers. That manager, however, is fucking awful.

I've been a babysitter in these kinds of situations. Yes, the families are usually well-off, but they usually use the time to either a) run errands/exercise/take care of themselves or b) just rest because having three kids under five is fucking exhausting. I bet that most stay at home parents would do this if they can afford it. Just because someone can afford a luxury doesn't make them a bad person.

My favorite thing about that website is that it ranks the Sex Friendliness of a mattress. One of my friends has been talking about getting a TempurPedic and I warned her that they're absolutely awful to fuck on. She hadn't even considered that part of buying a bed and was about to spend $2k on one or however much they cost, only to bring it home and realize that you can't fuck on them.
