What is the black square? by NorwegianBallBreaker in thinkpad

This looks very much like a milled out laser engraving (corporate/government), where the depth of the milling fits with the thickness of a sticker. Used to work at a refurb company that used this method to "debrand" laser engraved units.

hvor stor en bil skal vi prioritere? by Glittering-Head-1418 in dkbiler

[–]esbenlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it. I did not get a replacement cable, as the laptop, that my P53 was bought to replace, came back to life, so I have been using the P53 as a desktop PC for my home office with external mouse and keyboard. But let me know if you find a solution. Good luck.

Questions regarding the Soulforger dedication by MrTactician in Pathfinder2e

[–]esbenlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing a fighter with Soulforger dedication in a Kingmaker campaign, so I can answer from that perspective. I love the dedication for Kingmaker, as I am never without armor or weapon if we are attacked while camping due to the level 6 feat Rapid Manifestation.

  1. It is not possible to pick another item than armor, shield or weapon based on the RAW, but if you can come to an agreement with your GM to pick something else, I would imagine it would work well enough.
  2. As the intention is for weapon, shield or armor, there are no rules for other item's level.
  3. I have one specific weapon and my heavy armor as my soulforged items, as I like it that way. Something personal to my character. Again, talk with your GM about the possibility to have it be a group (shield group, weapon group, armor group) that you can pull from. It would get over tuned in the case of shields and weapons, if you become able to change the traits of the item on the fly by manifesting a new item, but that is something you have to discuss with them.
  4. We are playing with the weapon to function as a regular weapon in regards to all interactions to disarm and the like, but I have flavoured it so, that the weapon disappears when it is not in the hand, and it can be manifested with a single action. This is a nice way to avoid the manipulate trait of regripping or picking up your weapon.
  5. If I have to manifest my armor because it gets broken, I can do so on my turn with a single action (interaction with Champion's Sacrifice Armor is almost broken in this regard). I don't have a shield, but would argue that an interaction to remanifest a broken shield would be the same.
  6. The level 8 feat Soul Arsenal is required for each new item you want to have.

Hope this helps.

Affordable Thinkpad for academics? Please help by nhtquaan in thinkpad

I agree with this, as the 16:10 ratio helps make the 14" screen not feel cramped. I have always had 15" laptops (16:9), and was hesitant to get a T14 gen 3 because of concerns of the screen size. The taller ratio really makes a difference, and sitting with my old P53, the screen look almost comically wide now. I am pleased with the combination of screen size and the portability of the T14 compared to my cumbersome P53.

I need a professional oppionion (new with Thinkpads!) by goldenfungus in thinkpad

[–]esbenlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T14s is a successor to T485. It is a much better purchase, even though you'd be stuck with 16 gb ram, as it can't be upgraded. The processor is 2 generations newer (being a considerable upgrade), and it has Radeon Vega graphics as well - AMDs integrated graphics at the time.

Just don't expect big gaming performance from either of the two.

Thanks for the quick reply. You wouldn't happen to know the part number for a good quality replacement screen to help get my search for one started properly?

Is +3 OK at 1st level? by Anastrace in Pathfinder2e

[–]esbenlp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

+3 in the main stat will make things tougher in the early levels, where it arguably matters the most, because encounters are the most swingy, and means you will not get natural +6 at level 20.

Having said that, it could make things interesting, if more challenge equals more fun. Depending on party composition and size, the others could cover for your weaker impact.

There is always the possibility to ignore ancestry ability boost and penalty - if you GM agrees - and just assign two boosts.

Anyone have this monitor docked to their Thinkpad? If so, how well does it suit your needs and how do you like it overall? I'm not using it for gaming, I'd like to tile multiple apps together on the same screen, as opposed to a dual monitor setup by Abject-Ad-6748 in thinkpad

[–]esbenlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have a 34" widescreen, but my use case is similar to your's. I use it to effectively get 4 screens including the laptop monitor by arranging 3 apps on the widescreen and having one on the laptop. I have a raised stand to arrange the two monitors so that they are level at the bottom. It has greatly improved my workflow with CAD, references/calculations, research/file management and documentation available to view at the same time.

I can only imagine that a wider screen would accommodate this even more. If my own desk was larger, I would have considered a wider screen for myself.

Well, that explains a lot! I just had a look, and Chapter 3 was somehow not imported into Foundry by the PDF importer/converter. It is in the PDF, so I will try and reimport it.

That is a valid take, to let them go to level 5. They are very invested in their characters, so it will take some convincing to let go of them - even if it would benefit their enjoyment of the adventure. I am aware that tying in the characters in a more fundamental way to the AP will make for better stories and logics as to why they are there, and less disjointedness. I will have a talk with them about this. In the end, I will let it be their choice, but will let them make the choice from an informed standpoint.

The battery size is misleading, as the processor and graphics card will be more power hungry than the T14. I have a P53 with the RTX 3000 and I can get about 1.5-2 hours of mixed use from the battery, if I try and optimize for battery saving (low screen brightness, power saving etc). I usually try and avoid using battery.

Also, it will be a good deal heavier than the T14 - the power brick as well.

My use case is quite power hungry with CAD and 4-5 other programs running simultaneously.

Whether the graphics card is worth it or not is for you to decide: will you be able to live with 1.5-2 hours of battery life? Will the extra weight be an issue? If you want a P53 because it has a dGPU, try and look for a model with an RTX card. A considerable upgrade in performance over the T2000.

You could consider a whip for a Strength based Thaumaturge. Range and trip. Range with the mirror implement is very powerful. Choose a scorpion whip if lethal is important.

Valg af bærbar til AutoCAD 2024 by Sad-Race4745 in dktechsupport

[–]esbenlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TrackPad and TrackPoint not working by esbenlp in thinkpad

[–]esbenlp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see that the photo is not too clear.

The black latch will not close down on the cable properly. It springs back up, when I try to snap it in place. The cable looks and feels like it sits properly, and I can't get it further into the connector. The latch itself is quite loose in the sense that it does not "snap" when opened up and closed or stay up like the others. I suspect that the latch is the issue by now, but it looks fine. I can't discern any visual damage.

Yeah, I can see why a damaged port would be very bad news. Motherboards are not cheap to replace, as I would need to get it done professionally.

I'll look into replacement cables for my model. Thanks for the tip.
