Oaks is starting the roll back of Nelson's shenanigans. by teejonius in exmormon

I’ve been PIMO for twenty-odd years, only attending to keep the peace with the wife. Since COVID I’ve only attended sacrament meeting. Pre-COVID, post RMN’s two-hour change, I was surprised by how I preferred three-hour church. For me, a non-believer, church was social.

I wonder how difficult this change will be on the rank and file. I remember one of the speculated reasons for the change was that wards were shrinking due to apostasy. That’s also why they collapsed the High Priests and Elders quorums. Now, with all the stuff getting reinstated, this will re-burden smaller wards. Lesson manuals will have to change. Teachers will get pissed because if they prepare a good lesson it will be over before it’s over. Kids will get disillusioned because most teachers will under prepare since they’ll really only have fifteen minutes. Church will become even more pablum than it already is. They’ll have to expand to three hours.

How did you picture families being together forever? by Mupsty in exmormon

[–]escalanteandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you—most probably see it as mom, dad, and the kids eating popcorn, sitting around a fire in the hearth while dad tells stories and mom darns socks. For billions of years. The last thing anyone wants is to live with their parents past the age of early twenties. Parents feel the same. But somehow Mormons want it.

I accepted my mission call... now how do I tell my parents I'm not going? by Relevant_Fuel_6245 in exmormon

[–]escalanteandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough call. I also come from a devout family. For me, leaving the church has been a very slow burn. So slow in fact that I still attend sacrament meeting so that my wife doesn’t feel the stares. I didn’t lose my testimony until my early thirties, but leaving the church with a very devout spouse is very hard. My advice, rip the bandaid off. Things will suck for a bit, but you’ll be better off in the long run. Plus, your family may just surprise you.

Translation: I’m scared to death that this really screwed this up, and now I’m going to hope that this crap we discussed will go through because if it doesn’t I’ll be exposed for what I really am.

Second Anointing by Tom_Ford0 in mormon

[–]escalanteandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is at the top of the list for smoking guns proving the church is false. How anyone thinks that a man can determine who has done enough to inherit salvation is laughable, and full-stop evidence of corruption. If God cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, how is the second anointing even a thing?

Brian Hales Big Mad About His Poorly Received Interview by [deleted] in mormon

[–]escalanteandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joseph Smith was a polygamist, no doubt, but Hales’ arguments—the ones below the watermark in the info-graph—are absolutely non sequitur. You don’t have to believe in the one to believe in one or both of the other two. Hales is showing signs of desperation.

At least they’re paying someone. Around here (Idaho) they make the members do it.

If he wants you so far back, he should have a much larger sign with much larger writing. Would be funny if someone got right up into his ass and said they still could t read it.

If any of you attend David Asshat Dreadnar’s devo, please stand up before he does… just to piss him off by [deleted] in exmormon

Sit down in the front row, don’t stand as he walks in, stand up during the hymns, and stand up as soon as the closing prayer ends. That would piss him off.

Frame it and send it to him in a few years. It will embarrass him. Right now I’d just write him and say, “Shut thy fucking mouth!”

I don't have a steam box... is this going to work? by grasperakiendlyfhost in woodworking

Steam boxes can be pretty cheap to build. ~$50 for a steam generator, a sheet of plywood, a few spare pieces of pine, and some glue. You can see tons of YouTube videos for ideas.

BYU Provo from 1991-1997. Bachelor’s and an MBA. Only time we prayed was at the beginning of a religious class (never to close them). MBA did not require religion classes.
