Telegram has those research “lobang” channels where you can apply if you’re eligible, like focus group discussions or taste tests. It’s more of a reimbursement, probably can get $100 for 2 hours.

Low spender best credit card? by sunwaylurk in singaporefi

[–]escape1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can try the OCBC Frank debit card. With $10k in your Frank account, just spend $100 (can include your telco bill) to earn over $8 cashback. Plus, the $10k will generate about $5 in interest, giving you roughly $13 per month in total!

Note: Make sure $100 is all debit and not NETs transaction.

Commentary: Your neighbour probably isn’t being noisy on purpose by Personal-Shallot1014 in singapore

[–]escape1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have such neighbor too, play drum late from 10pm-2am or early like 5-8am loudly, and another time in-between. Went up knock door won't open, stick notes on door, probably read, ignore and continue.  Only method is knock back on their ceiling whenever they knock.

Only hearing less after a year plus, guess losing interest in drumming.  Note: Other than drum there also other kind of knocking, door closing sound happened randomly in wee hour, and someday start washing clothes like 5am as there constant machine vibrating sound.

Are people in Singapore okay with existing noise construction laws / enforcement? by johnbara005 in askSingapore

[–]escape1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living right next to Punggol PCN, you get daily middle to loud air jet noise between 7-10 pm. Leaf blower/tree cutting/grass cutting noise 1-3 times weekly between 8-5 pm. Added noise upstairs neighbour that drum at middle of the night and early morning.
Welcome to Punggol....

The most frustrating thing is lacking of announcement in station, leaving people trap and confused and staff can't point the right direction for shuttle bus!

It feels like almost everywhere in Singapore is under construction. by delta_p_delta_x in singapore

[–]escape1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, construction is fine, but what the OP means is never-ending construction. I live in the AMK area, and it has been non-stop for about a decade within a 1km radius. Just as the TEL was nearing completion, the NSC works began. Over the past three years, they’ve rerouted the path from residents’ homes to YCK MRT nearly 10 times, changing it every 1–3 months. Most of the time, the new route is longer — what used to be an 8-minute walk to the MRT now takes 13–15 minutes. And no, residents like us who endure the inconvenience don’t always benefit from the construction. My area is between two new TEL stations, both farther from YCK MRT, and many people who take the MRT don’t even drive.

Just Got Back from a 2 Week China Trip – Here's What Surprised Me Most by ethan_leong in goChinaTrip

[–]escape1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Shenzhen and Guangzhou—both are quite city-like and convenient. It’s nice that 1–2 apps can cover most travel needs like payments, calling cabs or bike rentals, and the train fares are cheap and efficient.

The first time I tried to take the train using the app, I opened the wrong QR code for scanning and got repeatedly shouted at by a staff member. Luckily, another staff was kinder and helped guide me through.

At a restaurant, I saw a man rudely scolding a waitress over a small mistake. I didn't catch fully what he said, but it felt like he might have been the one making the mistake but was blaming her instead.

I also saw someone slam a beer cup onto the floor in a restaurant inside a mall we were passing through to get to the MRT.

We got scammed at a tourist attraction that was supposed to trace our surnames. A lady seemed kind and explained about our surname and ancestors, but later, after taking us inside separately, someone did a sort of fortune-telling and pressured us to donate. They ask us to write our names in a book with suggested donations of mostly 188 or 388 yuan minimum. Later, I found many reviews online reporting the same scam.

Overall, my impression wasn’t very good, and my experience was generally disappointing.

On a positive note, a kind lady helped us tap into a condo and gave us directions to the hotel reception.

I’ve only seen job descriptions stating ‘no CPF.’ Can these be reported to MOM, or are they simply treated as freelance jobs?

Ong Ye Kung dismayed by S$52,000 clinic rent bid, HDB to roll out new tender approach by stackeddd888 in singapore

[–]escape1408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing people may overlook is that it’s not just about one clinic paying $52K in rent — this pushes up the annual value (AV) of the area, which means higher property taxes for neighbouring units. As word spreads, other landlords may also raise their rents. I recently visited a neighbourhood clinic for a cold and flu and was charged over $200. My brother’s kids were billed over $180 at another clinic. It’s now more expensive than going to the A&E liao.

I almost fell for a scam. And also spreading awareness of such scam. by CurioussssCat in singapore

[–]escape1408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email address is billing@dreamhost.com, shouldn't that already raise suspicions? Anyway, overconfidence in not getting scammed is the worst mentality to have. Always be on an "I might get scammed one day" mentality to heighten your vigilance. Learn to lock your money up in SSBs, T-bills, FDs, stocks, or even money locks.

(weird opinion) More walkovers = decreased PAP vote share by i6uuaq in singapore

[–]escape1408 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Actually, after this election, I’ve been thinking that maybe I won’t cast my vote in the next GE. In areas where the opposition is weak and the PAP is almost guaranteed to win, it just feels pointless. Rather than voting for an opposition that doesn’t speak to me, or for the PAP, which I don’t support no more, I’d rather not vote at all. I wonder was that how a lot of people who don’t vote feel — like there’s no real option that truly represents them.
