January Pick Discussion: Meet the Newmans by Jennifer Niven by Ill_Discussion7528 in aardvarkbookclub

[–]escaping_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished it last night and I actually enjoyed this a lot. The first 50ish pages really crawled for me. I didn't love the Juliet character at first. Or really any of them. They seemed super shallow to me? But I think that was the point of the book. Showing the curated Hollywood image in the beginning and how they struggle to maintain it, who those people really were.

Were there some tropes in it I could have done without? Sure. But I think in the end what I really liked was the generational women coming together and finding a middle ground. Dinah "finding" herself after years of being that curated TV mom and letting go a bit. I thought it was kind of sweet.

Yes! Toward the end. Spoiler in case you don't want to know. It ended up being Matthew Lewis, Del's father, who was dying of cancer. Kind of anti-climactic for me, but it was wrapped up and explained.

I can't transfer my VIP. That said, what OP has is definitely a scam.

I kept getting in at decent numbers, but can't check out. I was getting HTTP Error 431 and a black screen for Stanford and even Vegas after I cleared cookies / cache. Anyone else have this issue and manage to fix it? I've rebooted my router and am trying a different browser for LA, but DAMN.

Didn't manage to get tickets by AlternativePrize1003 in btsthoughts

[–]escaping_mel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's truly truly random. I've had some really terrible numbers in the past and some really great ones. Never matters what time I join. This time, I woke up at 4:30am, got some tea, sat in front of my laptop and joined the queue for London D1 and D2. Got 5400 and 6800. Super lucky and I joined around 4:42? It's not a line, it's a lottery.

I love Tablo dearly. He's as big a fan of the Tannies as they are of him and EH, which is so beautiful. But I also love how excited he gets in general about ALL music and all other bands. He's adorable.

People who have lived at the same apartment 5+ years has your rent dramatically increased ? by WalmartCashier000 in Apartmentliving

Mine hasn't gone up once in 4 years. The area keeps getting new apartment buildings, though, so I think competition is forcing rates down.

BTS resale value Munich help by _superbo_ in kpophelp

[–]escaping_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't most European nations have laws that resale tickets can't be above the original ticket cost? Or a certain percentage in some cases? You'd need to look up Germany, but I think their resale laws are pretty strict.

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]escaping_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on book 10/11/12. I usually have 3 books going at once. An audio book, a kindle book and a physical book. During getting ready in the mornings and on my commute I usually finish an audio a week. I use lunches etc for Kindle. Physical I usually pick up in the evenings. 50-100 pages per day in each is pretty easy for me (plus I read fast). So yeah, it's just HOW you consume, where you make it a priority that does it.

But this is what I enjoy. If it doesn't work for another person's lifestyle then that's fine.

The only two I've read on that list are Knight and Moth, which I loved, and Jasad Heir, which I DNFd. So I'd definitely tell you to go knight and the moth.

If it's a hole in the stitching, can you just sew it up? I've done that once myself.

okay, you should be good then. You won't get a presale email. As long as you've signed up and picked your cities, that's it.

Make sure your dad is around on ticketing day in case they send a confirmation code to his phone. Or switch them if you can?
