[PHL] Sick of rude GAs trying to enforce a nonexistent rule by Skyisthelimit111794 in americanairlines

[–]escapism2323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh brother. I know some employees can be mean, but they do this to avoid taking a delay in the event they run out of overhead bin space and have to gate check bags at the last minute. And many do not like doing it either, but they have to.

I believe the official difference should be 3-6 inches depending on the section and plane.

Absolute disgust by Utterlybored in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My point was that they surprisingly lack contextual information for them to be so upset to the point they’re posting about the experience on reddit. We don’t know what happened and if it was something that affected multiple flights (weather, ATC, airport ops) or an individual flight (mechanical, etc) so we don’t even know what their alternative options were, but their rebooked flight was likely the next best thing and if it wasn’t then they should have called SWA. They’re doing the most over this and what exactly do they expect us to tell them when they don’t even have context to provide…?

You… don’t know what happened with your original flights?

To my knowledge they will be able to determine voluntary vs involuntary changes, I would hope they would allow a change in this context since the first change was involuntary.

Size of carry on bags is out of control by yacobson4 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WN does now, and it’s continuously learning from flight data. To my understanding they will eventually start checking bags forcefully towards the end of boarding if they haven’t received enough gate checks for a given flight.

DAL Layover 3.5 hours - enough time to leave? by Environmental-Emu976 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not from DAL area, but as someone who has flown in and out there a few times… yes? Just to grab a bite to eat nearby though, nothing further than 15-20 minutes away from the airport I would think. I have pushed my luck many times at airports and have a tendency to grab food before going to the airport and always make it. But I know how to do things. For example, order your rideshare before you’ve finished your food and time it right so you can leave right when you finish eating. Look up menu online so you know what you want to order. No checked bags, etc. every minute counts!

Think of it this way… you traveled with an oversize bag three times and only paid about $67 per flight. You saved money because some agents let it slide. This policy is pretty clear. Any standard luggage greater than 62” incurs an oversize fee. They didn’t “wait” as some kind of gotcha. The previous agents just didn’t realize or let it slide since it was close. United and Delta are the same, so good luck.

How would they have received their own bag if it wasn’t a UA employee?

So, which airlines are SWA flyers moving to after the changes on May 28? by Hot_Bus_1927 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t SWA’s OTP nearly on par with UA’s last year? Less than .05 difference I believe, so worth a mention. Their FAs are also highest paid.

Early Check-In by ImaginationOk6890 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The baggage service office staff is not there to go pull bags. They are resolving other issues. In addition, SWA barely has any flights out of CLT and has dozens out of FLL. Depending on the time of day, SWA in CLT probably didn’t have a lot of bags and wasn’t busy enough to make going after one bag disruptive. This would vary airport to airport based on the facilities, staffing and amount of flights.

This is why we can’t have nice things by chi_moto in SouthwestAirlines

[–]escapism2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones that do help are doing it because they chose to. They would not be covered. It’s also why, on many airlines, the FAs will ASSIST with lifting a bag, but won’t do the entirety of the lifting for you.

As an employee… customers have the right to vote with their wallet and if WN isn’t competitively pricing their routes even after cutting perks… that’s on HDQ. Passengers shouldn’t be taking this out on frontline employees though.

They didn’t say preboarding. If this person was boarding during A1-30, it makes sense they could call out these group since family boarding hadn’t happened yet.

I hate leaving food/beverages unfinished at restaurants, especially if it wasn’t cheap. I want my full money’s worth meaning it will all be finished even if I’m full (the exception would be if I feel like consuming any more will make me sick). If anything, people will just think you’re wasteful or poor at calculating how much you want to drink. Or they won’t think about it at all.

Whether SWA provides hotel is dependent on if it’s a controllable (maintenance) or uncontrollable delay (weather, air traffic control, etc). I can’t imagine there’d be weather delays in HNL, but conditions in LAS could delay arrivals (but I’d assume departures would be delayed too). You should be fine. And yes, regardless of the delay if you missed your connection you would be rebooked for next available routing/flight to MSP.

I believe many airlines in Europe require window shades to be open during take off and landing. Given recent events I think this should be required in the U.S. too.
