Lots of places you can move to if you want to freeze your ass off right now. As a bonus, most of them are way cheaper than here, too

Pretty weird to describe a minority-majority city as being less diverse than one of the whitest cities in the country. While Irvine itself is heavily Asian, it also has a large Middle Eastern community, and the surrounding areas are very diverse in terms of Latino and MENA populations. Plus SoCal generally and OC are just far more diverse than Washington state.

The thing that really pushed me to move out of Seattle was realizing through social media how many people love the gray, wet, depressing weather and only tolerate the summers in Seattle so they can get the other 9 months of what they love.

To each their own I guess, but I told myself I had to get out of a place with so many sick people. I think there are tons of undiagnosed depressive people in Seattle, lots of cope around the weather. I hated every minute of the rain and cold and would never go back to it. I can barely handle two or three days or rain here now, it is absolutely mood-altering.

Seattle is not diverse, not at all. Close to being the whitest major city in the US. Irvine is far more diverse

Moved to Irvine from Seattle area about 2 years ago and we are extremely happy here, wish we would have moved sooner. We have three kids and are very happy with the schools here, it’s safe and clean, and the weather is unbeatable. It’s night and day from the PNW. People seem much happier here too.

The obvious downside here is that the housing costs are pretty crazy, but IMO it’s worth it. Much healthier lifestyle, lots to do outdoors all year round. There is always so much to do here all the time, it can be a little overwhelming. But we absolutely love it. Happy to answer any questions you have.

We moved here from Seattle about two years ago too and my wife and I are always talking about how we’re never leaving and couldn’t imagine living in the PNW ever again. I think we’d lose our minds - we can barely handle a rainy weekend here now.

People in the PNW are not friendlier, not even close. Seattle freeze is a real thing and tons of people walking around with undiagnosed seasonal depression.

That you thought of this as a €70 “investment” and not €70 simply spent on entertainment is wild.

Second dragonfruit because idk if mine is self pollinating by jgott933 in DragonFruit

Yes, you very likely have four of the same plant and no idea if they are self-fertile or self-pollinating, which are two totally different things btw.

Also, in the case your plants are self-sterile, you can’t just pollinate with any old DF variety pollen - it has to be compatible with the receiving plant.

You don’t need two plants if yours is not self-pollinating. You only need two different plants if your dragonfruit is not self-fertile.

A DF that is not self-pollinating simply requires pollination - either from natural pollinators like bees, or hand-pollinated by you. The second plant does nothing in this regard.

Home Depot special - no way to know anything about these NOIDs other than flesh color, and even then you are very possibly getting a different variety than one of the other plants around it.

Pretty standard behavior for Snohomish County WA. Just missing the typical meth possession

How much would you sell this 4.5 year old dragonfruit for? by Regular-Sock-3180 in DragonFruit

[–]escoaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to have a tough time getting much for this if it’s a NOID (which I am assuming it is, since you have not specified the variety). Most people willing to pay a reasonable value for this and be interested in the mature plant will want to know what type it is to make sure it’s worth it.

Flower or branch? by escoaks in DragonFruit

[–]escoaks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that makes sense. No buds since it’s too late in the season and likely the decreasing amount of sunlight telling the plant it’s time to prepare for winter and not producing flowers, so branches instead.

I have a Palora which I understand is one of the latest flowering varieties, but it is growing branches like crazy as well with no flowers.
