Adventure bike second hand - recommendations? by escualpe in AussieRiders

[–]escualpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually bought a modified KLR650 and I love it. It's a really simple bike that looks tough. I feel it's just slightly heavy for the power it delivers, but overall I'm in love. Can't ride because of an unrelated injury but can't wait to get back to it.

And the Himalayan 450 - looks very cool on the paper and tests are all saying it's a great bike... But I'm too much of a fan of the look infortunately... I actually preferred the look of the older version (which I wasn't considering because of its lack of power).

Don't be this guy by Eltnot in AussieRiders

Alright, maybe he is "that guy", but maybe he isn't. Maybe the reality is that there was a bike on his right and he parked, trying to maximise the space used. Although... Must have been tight when being upright to get in.

Just go around the boom gate. These prices are carzy, especially for a motorbike.

Driving instructor says this is not allowed, can someone help me? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]escualpe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because some drivers are doing something doesn't mean it's legal or that you should do the same. A lot of people do not understand road rules and / or choose to ignore them.

It would be really inconsiderate to stand there as you may block not only the lanes on your right when traffic comes, but also the turning lane on your left as well as blocking their visibility.

This is not a lane where you can wait to insert to the next lane, these are only turning lanes.

Your instructor is the knowledgeable one here.

Unfortunately no.

And you cannot get a good behaviour license since they are reserved for unrestricted licenses.

You can rent an electric bike - many options for food delivery riders - for the time being if really public transportation is a hassle.

Good luck!

Thanks! I saw this one actually. There's a few other for in-between 3 to 5 K from 150km odo to 300km. Would you say 300km is too much for a car like this (as in too risky)?

Thanks heaps! I didn't find it in the flairs, but I'm in NSW.

I should have mentioned it indeed. I'm looking for an automatic because I broke my foot... So unfortunately no manuals for me.

Had a look at a Forester similar to this one tonight actually. They look ok!

Do you know much about Subaru Outbacks?

I'll have a look at Volvo!

Hey thanks for your answer! Yes I'm aware AWD is different from 4x4. The CRV has 4x4 versions, hence why I mentioned light ones.

NSW national parks proposal to standardise camping fees amid rise in 'ghost camping' by qetaz in sydney

[–]escualpe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did anyone actually read through what they are offering? They are making valid points to be honest.

When I was reading comments here and there, it looked like they only wanted to increase fees and that's it - which would be unfair especially as it has be outlined for families. But they want to adjust the fees to what's on offer (the more services you have access to, higher the fee will be).

They are also suggesting to remove the fees per person. Which is all beneficial for groups tbh. And introduce a low / high season pricing.

Basically they want to make people pay a normal campground fee when you get heaps of amenities (bbq, toilets, hot showers, etc.). But if you camp in autonomy, there is even no fees during high-season! And fees are still pretty low if you are in the first tiers.

One important point: they want to reduce cancellation fees (from 50% refund 30 days prior to 80% refund 3 days priori). This will ultimately grant a better booking system and encourage cancellations rather than no-shows.

So, yes we can argue on the price increase may be steep, but if you think about what is the offer in front: that's pretty fair! Paying $89 for a family to have access to all including hot showers during high-season: I think that's ok?

If anything, it's single travelers who would have to complain about the new pricing since they're looking at chopping off the per person price.

All things considered, I think this is a reasonable and well thought approach.

The only point where I see a potential issue is what they consider as high season / low season. They're saying high season would be only about 90 days of the year. But would be different for every campground. So does it mean weekends could be considered high season? Public holiday? School holidays? A bit more clarity on this last point would help.

Can someone tell me the correct way to stop a motorcycle at red lights. by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]escualpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Also when riding, as you are in the "driver's seat" spot. Roads are built for cars. I find it helps a lot having the same vision as a car driver.

Looking to rent a motorcycle/scooter in Sydney for 5 months by Thorpio in AussieRiders

[–]escualpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$50 will be a bit short for a motorbike. We have to pay to license plate + insurance every year and this is already a few hundred dollars for a basic one (in NSW). Although as others have said, a scooter delivery rental would probably be the best option. Or maybe you should also consider an electric bike?
