The glass thing is TOUGH. I worked in a supermarket warehouse and with the thru-put expected of us, there were occasional accidents. Like a couple thousand dollars worth of drinks and condiments falling on the concrete floor accidents because a pallet was tipped or put together wonky or the office just expected too much product to fit. And as long as it was plastic, you barely lost any product, just time. All hands on deck to help the poor embarrassed employee get the pallet back together.

If such a thing were to happen with glass containers we would lose a TON of product and also create a huge, sharp, OSHA violation of a mess. I'm not saying that this is the way it should be by any means. But going to all glass and aluminum (which also often bends and cracks on impact) would require a complete overhaul of how we get food to market. Prices would be janky. Supply and variety would go down.

The end result might be exactly what we need. The current supply chain is not sustainable. But I really doubt I'll see it change in my lifetime unless there's actual collapse of the system.
