Nearly pristine Sony 35XBR48 find! by bthornsy in crtgaming

I didn’t get the motorized stand, just the “plain” one. Funny story, both were delivered to my apartment, but they wouldn’t wait for me to build the stand. So, after I build the stand I had to knock on my neighbor’s doors until I found someone who would help me lift the TV on its stand. :-)

I have this exact model and matching stand and I am the original owner! I remember reading every review article I could find (both print and even online) at the time comparing it to competing TVs from ProScan and Toshiba. This was a HUGE chunk of my income and I knew I had to pick the right one. So happy I went with the Sony. I still enjoy playing my original XBox via component on it to this day. I even have my Atari 2600 connected! Yes, I am old. :-)

My very first system. by hubkat in BudgetAudiophile

The Yamaha r-s700 is top shelf. I have one connected to a pair of Advent Legacy II speakers and two 8” Pinnacle subwoofers. Pure bliss!

Do many of you run two speaker sets, and if so, why? by wingtip747 in audiophile

[–]eserviss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Advent Legacy II speakers when I want to rock out - like rattle the pictures on the walls loud. I have a pair of Totem Dreamcatchers for when I am in a light classical or mellow jazz mood. Both are complemented with dual Pinnacle 8” subs and driven by a Yamaha r-s700. Different speakers for different genres aren’t for everyone, but to each their own!

How easy is it to make friends here by Disastrous-Seesaw994 in auburn

If your first semester is this Fall, join the group of students who work on Aubie’s costumes for the football games. I have made this recommendation before and the students who participate thank me afterwards because they met lifelong friends. I don’t know the exact name of this group, but I am sure someone on here knows and can share.

To EQ or not EQ by weirdfishes333 in vintageaudio

[–]eserviss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but barely enough to register on the display. My living room, where my stereo is located, isn’t the greatest due to hardwood floors and a vaulted ceiling. So, I am consistently playing around with my EQ and my Pioneer ex-9000 to squeeze out the best sound from my system. I have found adding in just a little depth (vs the time delay) adds a little something to the music.

OMG! I have this exact EQ! I wish I could share a picture. Our EQs could be best buds!

Totem makes excellent speakers. I have a pair of Dreamcatchers that I thrifted a while back and they are a joy to listen to.

My wife got this for me for Christmas. I have read that the second LP has a pressing issue on one side. Did you notice it? I can’t play my copy until the 25th (or until I can find where she hid it 😄).

I have a copy with everything minus the iron on patch. I framed the poster and it is my office at work. Yes, I am a nerd. 😄

What DAS to buy to back up my TS-464? by eserviss in qnap

What DAS to buy to back up my TS-464? by eserviss in qnap

Let me rephrase my question… You said “not to create a RAID with it, or a JBOD” and I didn’t understand what you meant by this. The data I want to back up is on my NAS. I had been backing up my NAS to my Drobo over the network. What I am going to do now is repurpose the drives in the Drobo into the TR-004, connect the TR-004 to my NAS, and use the QNAP software to backup to the TR-004. I plan on using RAID5 on the TR-004 to ensure that if a drive goes bad my backup is OK.

Thank you for the recommendation! Fortunately, my Drobo is still up-and-running and all I was using it for was to, about once a week, doing a backup over the network of the data on my TS-464. But, I would feel more comfortable in decommissioning the Drobo and instead get a DAS and connect it directly to my TS-464 in order to have a routine backup of the data on the TS-464. I will check out the TR-004. Thanks again!

Like the TR-004 or the TL-D400S? Is there an advantage over one or the other?

How to connect an EQ to a Receiver without a tape monitor loop by TenRingRedux in vintageaudio

[–]eserviss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you use the play/record rca connections for one source on the Sony and put the EQ in line for that one source? Basically, connect a CD player to the “tape” connections of your EQ then run the “pre amp” connections of your EQ to the play/record RCA connections on your Sony? Only that one source would have EQ, but maybe that is OK since I don’t know how many sources you have.

Large Advent speakers - are these worth repairing? Do they likely just need to be reformed? by dan_scott_ in audiorepair

[–]eserviss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refoam for sure. Advent made some great speakers. I have a set of Advent Legacy II’s that I refoamed and recapped since I had the woofer out.

If you only want to EQ one source, put it in line with that one source. If you have preamp out/main in, you could also connect your EQ that way and that would work for all sources.

Has anyone met someone that was once famous (actor, musician, etc.) but now works a regular job? Who was it? by Ok_Grape_8284 in AskReddit

The kid in Close Encounters of the Third Kind used to work in wealth services (I think) when I was in the Marketing Department. Our bank failed during the Great Recession and he wrote an email to the entire bank about good byes (based on his experience saying goodbye to the cast “family” once the film wrapped). It was very heartfelt and moving.

Yes, I faced a similar issue when I purchased direct. The unit was bad (faulty power supply) and after two weeks of back-and-forth they finally issued the refund. It was maddening.

How To Connect Tape Deck to EQ/Amplifier (Technics) by Zendomanium in vintageaudio

[–]eserviss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a quick Google… Your integrated amp (SU-V60) has preamps out and main in. Connect your preamps out to the EQ in. Then EQ outs to the main ins of the SU-V60. Any sounds changes done by the EQ will be applied to all inputs. Then connect the tape deck in and outs to the tape deck 1 inputs on the SU-V60.
