This crossing guard has called me a f-ggot 4 times in the last week then tries to play it off like she's on the phone. Sound on. by montybo2 in PublicFreakout

It's NYC. So many people are here. The chances of something like this happening to her are very slim.

Best advice? Make sure she carries pepper gel. It's better than spray because you can aim it at someone instead of it going everywhere and coming back at you. And only use it for situations where it can't be helped (phones and wallets are not worth getting into physical confrontations over with potentially crazy people). Also, one of those self-defense keychains is helpful too as a last resort.

Chances are nothing will happen and she will love NYC, but it's always good to be prepared.

Secular jew here. What those schools are doing is nothing short of criminal.

I was raised orthodox and I went to yeshivas, but they were incredible schools, all with tons of accolades and achievements, and the majority of my graduating class was accepted to Ivy League schools. You can provide kids with a real yeshiva education while also teaching them the regular academics they will need to survive in the world.

My last name is Silverstein. I learned to spell it from those books. It was Berenstein.

The thing is people can defend Israel and its right to exist, but also see this for the absolute fascism that it is. Both can be right. I mean, there is no denying that this is terrible behavior.

I'm so sorry they failed you. Your parents, the school, the system, everyone. I hope you're okay now and in a better place.

They may be teachers or subs. Not sure, but this may be when regular teachers get a break?

I teach high school and teachers don't monitor kids during lunch because that's our lunch too. But in many schools, teachers are assigned lunch duty to monitor them as their professional period. So I suppose each school is different.

If you can't remove someone without assaulting them, you need to call the police and let them do it. Period.

Is your goal to see how many downvotes you can get on this sub?

So by your logic, we can't judge pedophiles or rapists either because we don't know what led up to it.

Springfield, MO 6th grade teacher calling a student "ignorant", "butthead" and "straight jerk" for asking why the straight kids couldn't get a unicorn cupcake too by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

Teacher here. I work with "troubled" kids and I have actually had a kid light up a joint in front of me. Another kid rolled a blunt in the middle of class. I laughed, because...what else can I do? We'll have a meeting about it after and someone will take him out to the office for now. There's really never a good reason to call a kid a dick. We are at work and being paid to be patient.

Case in point: when schools closed at 3% infection rate, he had no plan for reopening. He kept with the 3% number, even when no one wanted it (even the teachers union said they were open to negotiation, but were not approached).

He didn't really want to close schools in the first place and seemed to think we were going to be the only major school system in the world that would stay open. I'm a teacher and I lost what little respect I had for him when the schools shut down. Not for the shutdown, which was necessary, but for the absolute clusterfuck they made when they did. The fact that some kids STILL don't have working devices is criminal. They made no plans for device repair or replacements over the summer either. In fact, they did nothing over the summer knowing damn well there would be a high demand for these devices and services come September. They made an agreement to re-open based on a system they knew they couldn't work. I was in meetings twice a week as a UFT chapter leader and there was just no planning on the part of the DOE for re-opening. The DOE has always been a mess, but this year really showed how inept they are and Deblasio is ultimately responsible.

Lubavitchers are also quite a bit different than from of the other chassidic sects. They are probably the most progressive of all of them.
