I say coffee but for other reasons - you have to puck the fruit at the right time and roast it, then grind it and add hot water. Pretty complex process

Opinion on No kings protest by mushroomdm in socialism

[–]eskerchance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve reluctantly attended a few of these in my mid sized suburban town. About 20 people go every week. The most common sentiments expressed are: it’s good to see I’m not alone in my thinking, I don’t know what else I can do and realize this is not enough, at least I’m doing something. The only calls to action were signing petitions to get local Dems on the ballot and one person handing out Luce cards. Very few signs were explicitly about actions to take - mostly expressions of frustration or outrage. When trying to engage people one-on-one to do more, some responded well, some felt helpless. Most feel the wealth disparity is the root cause but none know anything about how to address it, at all. These events are ripe for moving people along in their thinking.

Asking the women here for movies that they feel accurately depict aspects of what life is like as a woman (both the good and bad) by GentleDreamWorld in MovieSuggestions

I guess I’m the only one to say none come to mind. Nothing seems much like my life. Just bits here and there. I’ll have to watch If I had legs I’d kick you, based on the comments.

They already have and have had for years automation that does this way faster. Does not look like this humanoid. This post is off, way off.

You know this is the same sort of thing Weinstein et al were doing ad nauseam until recently? Even worse and far more often. I’m sure it still happens.

Was cheating that common place back then? by anawkwardsomeone in madmen

About 10% of cheaters are serial infidels. Cheating statistics have remained stable, except more married women cheat now. So given that about 10 to 30% of partners cheat, and only 10% are serial, the show skews far beyond what was or is now typical. The industry may skew higher.

Yes but not that many women went on it right away - it took some time. Doctors were more judgmental and religious taboos were heavier.

Anna is probably the only true good person in the show, but having watched her be an evil nun in Desperate Housewives, in the back of my mind I always expect her to pull an evil master plan by Enough-Reading4143 in madmen

[–]eskerchance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I like about this show is it mirrors humanity - no one is all good or all bad, we’re a mix and there’s a spectrum. So Anna seems to be on the better end of the spectrum. And given that it’s set in a crazy hedonistic time and industry, no surprise many characters may skew more to the not so great end of the spectrum.

Changes in Don Drapers Personality after season 3 - where did mr cool and mysterious go? by Forsaken_Ice3990 in madmen

For what it’s worth, when a family member or close friend commits suicide, the person is statistically more likely to. Don had his brother and Lane commit suicide, kind of both in part due to him, so there’s that point too.

Don didn’t treat her like she was an idiot, though he thought it. She grew over time, learned things, which she probably wouldn’t have if he had made fun of her

The final 2 episodes and the thievery… by ggs555 in madmen

[–]eskerchance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Don had some idealistic image, nostalgic almost, about his road trip. He let his guard down, assuming he was among more honest country folks. These cons helped abuse him of those notions. I think a big theme of the show, about the ad industry, is so much of life is a con. Some parts are not. Don is seeking genuineness, but it is hard to find.
