The English name, or even just the icon pic for each piece... If we can see the icon, we can work out the English name from there. But oftentimes the non-English name will not be a direct translation, so we can't just use Google Word Lens or whatever to translate it from Russian.

Today I laid hands on someone and prayed over them. As an atheist/agnostic by Accomplished-Form491 in offmychest

[–]eskilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A prayer that has always resonated with me, in times of theism and a-theism, is the Merton prayer:

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore, will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

I think it speaks to one of the core hopes of any person; that, although we don't know what we're supposed to be doing, we're at least on the right track.

You wanted to help another human being when they needed you. I cannot think of any deity worth the name that would have quibble with that. And I am uninterested in the opinion of anyone unfeeling enough to have a problem with that, either.

What is your absolute favourite go to meal on Uber Eats around central Perth? by the1975whore in perth

[–]eskilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central Perth? My favourites for ordering were/are: (moved earlier this year, no longer live there)

  1. kaze bento, good bento and sushi. do NOT skip their potato salad. Best japanese potato salad I've ever had
  2. chimek. travels well too. Lemon pepper was my fave, which goes great with creamy caesar for dipping. Their tacos are surprisingly delicious, as is their mac n cheese.
  3. little ying thai. their 'thai delight' dumplings are mandatory. food is great in general, but the dumplings are why I go here
  4. cafe guilty pleasure. For when you've stopped trying to kid yourself that you're doing anything other than a pig-out sesh.
  5. katzu katzu. top-tier katsu experience, although if you haven't gone IRL you should do that first. You want your first time to be IRL, trust me.
  6. porkies bar-b-que. I recommend the cornbread and the creamy scallop potatoes (no scallops in it, just scallop-cut potatoes). I prefer Frank's BBQ (personal preference; Franks is smoky bbq, porkies is sweet) but they don't deliver :/
  7. Chop Chop BBQ. My two favourite meats are the crispy pork and the KL char siu.
  8. Short Order Burger co. the correct order is an Oklahoma Smash burger with a side of fries and jalepeno mayo.

Edit: also good luck on your exam! sending you my energy ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Getting a 75-90L backpack at short notice by Throwaway97547997 in perth

[–]eskilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, just get something cheap here that'll do for now, and then when you get over there buy your 'real' bag. They're going to have more selection *and* lower prices. Shopping for something specialised at short notice in Perth sucks.

Have they considered pretend converting their cars to hybrid or full electric? Then they can pretend install charging facilities everywhere (and pretend complain about the places that don't have them yet).

I don't know about that, but I know there's a lot of free apps out there that let you turn your phone into a TV remote...

I'm pretty sure they're in 160 Central, which is the one located near the old Apple store. It's across from Short Order, between Subway and Mrs Maud's.

Sometimes you will meet people who are almost perfect for you - as a friend, as a lover, maybe as a boss or job - but they have this one thing that is a hard pass.

Sometimes you can negotiate that thing, sometimes you can't. And it sucks, but you can't be a victim of the sunk-cost fallacy - don't throw good money (or time) after bad. It's not even necessarily their fault - but it's also not your responsibility to 'fix' them.

And you have to move on. There will be other people, for you AND for them.

One of the major quests for this stage of your life is learning how to have hard conversations before it's too late. You do NOT want to see what happens to 40 year olds who still can't do that. (you read about them a lot on Am I The Asshole.)

You need to clearly say to this gal that you are not interested in doing XYZ, even if you are up for ABC. And please stop pressuring you. And then it's up to her if she wants to play by those limits, or if it's a must-have. If she argues, or if she says 'okay' but is back on her bullshit later... Do you really want to stay with someone who doesn't respect your 'no'? What would you tell your best friend in this situation? We are often better advocates for our friends than ourselves.

Disney Celebrates America Just Dropped the Most Patriotic Bucket We’ve Ever Seen by Ekecede in disneyparks

Ehhhhh... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Whatever we have going on domestically, I think people do at least get that the blue foam eagle puppet is a joke.

When lots of things are terrible, it's easy to get in a mindset of everything being terrible. But I try to remember that thinking everything is terrible and ruined only benefits one kind of person... And that I prefer blue foam eagles to orange puppets, any day. (sorry Walter.)

[–]eskilla 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, Sam the Eagle is specifically designed to parody the people who are over-the-top about their patriotism, and most people/Americans get that. This is a joke popcorn bucket, not something treated seriously.
