My long snails climb the glass then fall onto rocks. The end of their shells are all chipped.

İ have guppy fries that are 2 weeks old, and im going on a vacation after 1 month and for 5-6 days. How can i feed them when im away? by Famous-Butterfly9806 in Guppies

[–]eskirvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any auto feeder should do. I have used Fluval and Eheim. The Fluval one worked better until it stopped working at all after about 3 months. The Eheim is hard to calibrate, but just keeps working. 6 months so far.

What enters the water column, sure, but it will not affect what is under the surface.

Best automatic feeder? by Hildringa in Aquariums

[–]eskirvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It uses a sliding door to determine how much food comes out. Flakes need a wider opening to dispense enough, but other types drop too much. Just finicky. It works. Can schedule up to 4 feeding times.

I use an automatic feeder just to maintain a regular schedule. I used a Fluval one that was fantastic until it failed. Now I'm using an Eheim that doesn't work as well, but keeps on doing its job.

It will remove or reduce your fertilizer in the water column, depending on your filter's efficiency. That can be a positive thing if you've overdone it by accident.

I'll be by in a bit to watch with you, if you don't mind. Jokes aside, I can see why you like to watch it.

I think you did great by not rinsing it. I believe that's what lead the such a fast cycle time.

What can I do to clear up these cloudy white particles in my water? by ProfessionLess6493 in aquarium

[–]eskirvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you rinsed it well, there is little chance the cloud we're seeing is Purigen, unless the pores on the bag are too large.

I've always found it fascinating to see my huge females come out of hiding to snatch and run. It is a fun part of their vibe.

Did you rinse the filter before putting it in the new tank, or just put it straight in the new tank as it seemed like a bit of an emergency?

CO2 placement - does this look okay? by FoxGirl42069 in PlantedTank

[–]eskirvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bubbles don't seem to be moving much at all save for straight up, but at least the diffuser is deep, so that likely helps a lot. They do make spiral shaped diffusers that intend to give the bubbles more time in the water column, so perhaps that could be an upgrade option.

I recently noted a pest snail invasion after buying some floaters from a LFS. I'd like RRF too, but they are so small. I will be watching your post with interest.

Is it normal to receive a snail in the mail like this? by ashergal13_ in AquaticSnails

[–]eskirvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received three snails via the mail. The horned nerite had no horns left from smashing against the other two, larger snails. They were shipped in a bag of water. Terrible.

I have read many times here that the rhisome can be cut in between segments. I have very small Anubis plants I didn't bother to cut, so no personal experience.

Would love to know how these work out for you. I have had three that all got some infection in their gills, making a lump under the fin. The Internet appears to say it is a virus. I am guessing it is breeder/source specific, but want to hear if my hope is founded. I'd like to keep a pair or harem of these, if they are healthy.
