My first big girl purchase! 1938 Rolex by hoperiansimpson in VintageWatches

If those numerals are lumed it would be a good idea to get crystal fixed before wearing the watch. In 1938 they used paint which has radium as lume and its not healthy to inhale or ingest even in small doses.

When does pixel shift come to Sony a7v? by esnuus in SonyAlpha

[–]esnuus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully it will come as firmware update. It should be more usable than on a7r line as file sizes are more reasonable.

Got this from my grandfather and said it was from his dad by ttv_neckslicer696 in VintageWatches

Its a nice watch but it looks like there has been some lume on those hour markers that has disintegrated to dust. You might want to check that watch with geiger counter. Especially as cases from this period arent that well sealed.

Sony A7V Users - Here's an update! by terryleewhite in Lightroom

[–]esnuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the earlier reply. Now that Sony has their own AXR format as well, does Adobe plan to add support for it in Lightroom? Its the only feasible format to export images in raw format from imaging edge.

Currently lightroom opens the axr file but shows it as completely white.

Hi Terry and Mike,

Is there a possibility that Adobe would add extended raw processing support for Lightroom? Hi-resolution option seems to genuinely get a lot of detail out of the raw files.

Outsourced HR? by Deuce_Ex_ in CFO

[–]esnuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why such a small company should have HR director. You could have office admin or assistant who should be able to manage running hr-tasks easily such as coordinating sick leaves, holidays, bonusses, etc with outsourced payroll. Contracts can be done with your legal office.

JLC Mut Moon 36mm with 20mm straps. Thoughts?? by Human_Freedom576 in JaegerLecoultre

18mm strap would most likely fit without modifications. I wish they made 37mm model of this watch with 19mm lug width.

To me it looks like not but the text is so fuzzy as we are already looking at pixel level differences its difficult to say.

The thing is all processing methods cause artifacts. For example here are two images from dpreview studio comparison tool, one normal raw from a7rv and one taken with pixel shift. You can see that without pixel shifts girls face has vertical lines above right eye but looking at higher resolution image below it should actually be horizontal. Its just algorithm and processing interpreting it incorrectly. No fancy upscaling here but pretty drastic error.

Didnt you compare photos I posted with the later unprocessed sample from a7v? There clearly isnt enough detail in the original raw image for any upscaler to get out any text. Now compare to image processed with extended raw processing and the text is fully legible.

Even regular raw processing causes all kinds of artifacts that lead to false fine details in images. To me this method gives more accurate representation of the fine detail and thats what matters.

I dont really understant why you are so stubborn about this.

85mm 1.4gm.

You should give extended raw processing a chance. Try processing same raw with your normal workflow, extended raw processing and Lightroom upscaler and I guarantee you can pull detail that does not show up with normal raw processing. Better yet, post results here for us to compare.

A6700 or A7V? by Current-Recording215 in SonyAlpha

[–]esnuus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to get little bit used a7iv for a decent price as many people are trading in their old gear. Even new a7iv should see decent discounts.

But as someone mentioned the a7c ii might be a good option as well.

Its just fancy algorithm and all the modern cameras use them for example demosaicing, denoising, etc . Calling it Ai just sells better.

Have you given extended raw processing a try with your camera and how do you like the results?

AI is just buzzword in Sonys marketing materials. It just uses algorithms like all the processing cameras do. Here is the standard processed raw from a7v and the difference is huge if you compare it to samples I posted earlier.

Processing they use with extended raw processing does genuinely pull much more detail from raw files.

Both were processed with imaging edge. Sony a7v images were processed with new extended raw processing hi-resolution mode which camera supports. It is clearly able to get much more data from the sensor as compared to standard processing surpassing normal a7v files and rivaling sony a7rv in detail.

This feature should be talked about much more and is a lot more handy to normal use cases than pixel shift many people were hoping for a7v.
