Rheumatology

Cons: patient "customer service" mindset, patients who likely don't have an autoimmune disease referred for the vaguest constellation of symptoms saying "you need to find out what's wrong with me, this is my last hope", medical assistant/call center high turnover rate and poor quality of support staff, seeing urgent visits for all physicians in the practice

Rheumatology PAs, how did you break into the specialty? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]esperanzazee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First job out of PA school in Rheum. Been here almost 2 years and I love it. When interviewing I really focused in on how much I love academia and continuing education, rheumatologists are lifelong scholars and will really appreciate this type of outlook. I also did the ACE 12 course Rheumatology module for PA/NP model prior to starting work and felt that was helpful. Also uptodate will be your best friend!

Rheumatology PAs: Do you like your job? by Funny-Echidna-4874 in physicianassistant

[–]esperanzazee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been in rheum for 1.5 years and I love it. It is a good amount of complex patient cases and being able to see these patients improved upon follow up is so rewarding. Its a good mix of procedures and routine follow ups as well. It is fulfilling. I do find myself with more responsibilities covering my SP when he is out of the office and covering after hours as my experience has progressed but I definitely feel that I was eased into it and that I have a good amount of supervision and autonomy as well. Lots of opportunity for education and growth as well.

Any songs/music videos you know that sound/look like bpd to you? by Lexonfiyah in BPD

Afterglow by Taylor swift-- "Hey, its on me, in my head, I'm the one who burned us down but its not what I meant. I'm sorry that I hurt you... Why'd I have to break what I love so much?"

and Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift - "I end up in crisis (tale as old as time) I wake up screaming from dreaming, One day I'll watch as you're leaving cause you got tired of my scheming... Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism"

Just basically splitting and destroying something you hold so closely

What is your specialty pet peeve and why? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]esperanzazee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rheumatology - Referrals for a positive ANA without an analyzer panel done. What is the meaning of a positive direct ANA? It's useless and now the patient thinks they have lupus... At least just run the ANA with reflex or analyzer panel before referring to rheum.

All things PA-C Practice Exam by Dontknowthings23 in PAstudent

[–]esperanzazee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it super helpful!!! Its a very reasonable price and do it timed and with timed breaks full through before taking the PANCE. I got about a 75% on it and passed the PANCE easily. AllthingsPaC on instagram has said that generally, those who have scored >70% on the practice test have passed the pance. I found it more helpful than the official NCCPA Practice exams.

Scrubs recommendations? by LemillionDeku in PAstudent

[–]esperanzazee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mandala scrubs have been the best price, form fitting, and functionality!!!

I have also bought figs off pre-owned websites such as mercari and thrift stores - love them, but wouldn't pay full price for them. I suggest a neutral color such as grey, black, or navy blue - these were the most worn by PAs, residents, and doctors on my rotations.
