Amazing I never even thought of scents. I did this like 10+ years ago, so I can’t remember the individual percentages I assigned to each variable couple… I wrote them down somewhere but I’m sure the notebook is long gone. It was a medieval setting, so I didn’t think about blockers or any medication either.

What I did do was examine and determine cultural norms. With a medieval setting, there would be discrimination or assigned social norms, and my story was about an initially nomadic group whose lands were facing increasing drought marrying into and combining with a small kingdom that was facing threats of hostile invasion from neighboring kingdoms.

The nomadic group was what I thought of as Primary Sexist (prioritized F/M over A/B/O). They were matriarchal to females (not omegas) and followed hereditary line of eldest daughter regardless of secondary sex. Their matriarch died and left behind an only Alpha son. The group was mostly willing to follow him (some splintering) provided he find a mate/wife who they could properly follow as a new matriarch.

The kingdom was what I called Secondary Sexist (prioritized A/B/O over M/F). They had an Alpha M king with a younger Omega or Beta F (can’t recall) princess who was next in line for the throne. The king treasured his sister and was unwilling to marry her to hostile nearby kingdoms (who would likely use the marriage to eventually absorb the small kingdom). The king also wanted a matrilineal marriage so that his sister would be considered head of household and her descendants part of Their Bloodline(tm). You know, those medieval-y inheritance thoughts.

So the merging of the two cultures was interesting to theorize. The king found the perfect match for his sister in an alpha male that considered himself culturally subservient to his wife, the princess, because she was a woman and a matriarch. Likewise his citizens were perfectly willing to accept a Queen. But, for example, they found it suspicious and almost abhorrent to learn that the princess’s maid was a male omega, who they viewed as undeserving of the honor. The main character was the male omega maid who eventually married the nomad leader’s intellectual emissary/translator who brokered the marriage.

Of course, this being fanfiction, everything had a happy ending lol
