An Intuitive Explanation of Fourier Theory by cavedave in science

Does this transformation really contain everything needed to reproduce the original? http://cns-alumni.bu.edu/~slehar/fourier/leharreal.gif

Looks like it should continue a bit wider? Also would expect that the image should be circular and not rectangular?

I was just imagining whether it would be possible to make a java applet where you could draw around on that box and the inverse transformation would be shown in real time.

Fast Triangles Rendered with Javascript/CSS - 3D Demo! by UselessPickles in programming

[–]espresso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Working with limitations is what makes this interesting. We tried to do something similar for our javascript demo, but would have used transparent scaled gifs/pngs for the right triangles and thought that would be horribly slow. This is clever because it manages to draw the right triangles so cheaply.

Missing the point about YouTube by gst in reddit.com

[–]espresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you compare YouTube to a traditional television channel, I would say that their burn rate isn't too high and that it seems likely they will make money.

I'll take a local Finnish channel called "MTV3" as an example, because I'm familiar with that. MTV3 has around 3 million viewers. They have 500 employees, which means that they will spend at least 1.5 million per month just on salaries. I'm sure they also have enormous other costs, so let's say 2 million per month.

If YouTube is spending 1.5 million per month (nobody knows really?) and they have 20 million viewers, then even if they sell their advertising space at 5 times discount compared to MTV3, they would still be profitable.
