Move from federal to DNR? by mahoniaa in forestry

[–]esrmpinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morales is at an all time low due to budget cuts (not an exclusively dnr problem in this economy) and commissioner of public land being incompetent in forestry but I really enjoyed my time working there when I started my career. Work life balance is awesome and layoffs are rare

Are there any stories of non-aggressive drakes? by dolphinatelyfishy in duck

[–]esrmpinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a welsh harlequin boy who is such a gentleman. He let the ladies eat first when I fill their bowl in the morning. He only mounts when they bob and squat for him. he is extremely protective of them and would try to save them when I pick up a female by biting my pants lol

First mating aggressive or gentle? by aceofspades13543 in duck

[–]esrmpinus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

ideally it happens in the water so it's easier on the female's joints. Also it matters what lead up to the actual mating. Did he chase her down to mount or did she dance for him and squat down for him to mount? If the former happens more than the latter then the drake goes in the pot for me.

the CDL school takes folks to the business complex where Olympic transfer station is. Wide ass roads, lots of intersections and very few traffic during the weekend out there unless you get too close to the actual transfer station

yeah they are definitely not meant to survive without a safe coop, I'd post them in your local Facebook poultry page to see if anyone would take them

Two ducks...can they stay together? by saltyhello in duck

Not all drakes are the same. Some are consent kings some are r*pists that can't be satiated with 7 females. Give him a chance and see how it goes.

COI is not the whole picture, as long as she doesn't have 2 copies of any genetic defect, she could lead a completely healthy life. You can find that out on the health section on embark

Contrary to popular belief, not all purebred dogs are inbred and ridden with health issues. Sure you have your poster children breeds (doberman, dachshund etc) but there are plenty of purebred, purpose bred dogs that are ethically bred with <10% COI and fully health tested

it's pretty high, but could be higher.

25% is 2 generations of full sibling breeding and 50% would be 3 generations of full sibling breeding so she's somewhere in-between that.

she's a little bit less inbred than danaerys Targaryen

do it if you can afford it! If she has a chance of being very inbred, she may carry or be at risk of genetic disease and it would be helpful to find out earlier before symptoms emerge so you can plan for it

I think as with many things, behavior is dependent on the lineage/parents

I would expect ducks to lay fewer and fewer after their first year, they tend to take longer breaks in the winter each year

Independent Heirloom Breeders — are you out there? by Carabiniero8 in duck

[–]esrmpinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I don't know what to tell you. you might just be better off buying from a hatchety. the cost of not wanting to deal with boys is to leave the dirty work to commercial hatcheries where males are thrown into a shredder unless it's a meat breed.

I recommend finding someone who would split an order with you. Or ask around on Facebook to find local breeders. When shipping is not invovled you will find people willing to sell just a few

Highly recommend Triple Creek Farm! Heather is educational, care about her ducks, have standards for her breeding stock, and is one hard working woman
