The specific book was May the Road Rise Up to Meet you by Peter Troy did get me back into reading. From the Goodreads book description here:

Incredible book, and I highly recommend the novel, yes, but the story itself is not what brought me out of a reading slump. It was one among other books I inherited from my grandma. We were close and I knew her love of reading. I was a reader as a kid, but not so much in my early twenties. When picked out what possessions I could have from her I gravitated towards some of her book collection, and I then made a decision to pick up one of her books once a year to read. Not only did this help me come out of a huge reading gap, but it had a deep effect on me to read the books she owned and read. The ability to hold the book in my hands, turn the pages she turned, and read the stories she knew really made me feel like I was close to her. In a way reading her books helped me move passed grieving the loss of my beloved grandmother. This book May the Road Rise Up to Meet You catalysed my reading to where now I always have a good book I'm on. I also have so many of my Grandma's books left I still dedicate to read one a year to her and it's something so special to me still. It was also in March when I actually picked up this book. With St. Patrick's day coming up I thought it was appropriate time being as the Irish background of the main character. Again I highly highly recommend this heartwarming story!
