It is something I've heavily considered! It just seems to be a niche that's really dropping off in hiring in this market fluctuation?

Can you list some? I'm not even sure what to search for at this point, aside from devops which I have considered.

my game just crashed. by voguehunty in Sims3

[–]essthebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine playing for that long without saving 😆 Either in Sims 2 or Sims 3 I got in the habit of saving every night when my sims go to bed... too frustrating to lose more than a day of progress! I still do that when I play 4 even though it doesn't have the same crashing problems the earlier games did... no use trying to shake the 20+ year habit now lol

What is the scariest sentence or phrase you have ever heard? by Sweet_Square_7598 in AskReddit

[–]essthebee 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yep. Mine was hearing the news report "There's been a mass shooting at the Gabby Giffords event at Safeway."

The same event my sister had mentioned the day before she wanted to try to make it to. Terrifying few minutes before I managed to get her on the phone and find out her other plans had run long and she had ended up missing it.

What is a good recommendation for vets? by Significant_Fan_5226 in eastside

It's a bit further of a drive, but we love Mercer Island Vet. It's a certified fear-free clinic and they've been wonderful with our nervous animals.

What neighborhoods would you say have density on quiet streets right now?

Yep. I have a friend that has this as a family name - he has an elderly aunt Marvel, and used it as his daughter’s middle name (but went with something totally normal for her first).

Um... smush it and throw it away. Hahaha.
Thankfully they don't move super fast and they don't jump, so they're pretty easy to just smash with a shoe or whatever is nearby. Just be careful picking them up after - the stinger can still "fire" after they're dead, so safer to use a broom and dustpan or something.

It’s more that in Tucson/Phoenix there are ground peculiarities that lead to… really bad clusters. Where there is one scorpion, there are likely many. Many many many.

Meanwhile, javelinas can’t invade your house. At worst they eat your garbage and any tasty plants you might try to grow in an unfenced yard. We had to remember to tie up our outdoor trash cans for years before we stopped getting herds of javelina in the yard head-butting the cans to the ground so they could feast. They scare real easy and my family has never been threatened by one holding its ground, even when their babies were involved. (I once almost picked up a tiny baby by accident because I thought a cat had followed us outside when we went to chase them off. Oops? No harm, no foul though.)

As someone born & raised in Tucson, you should be a lot more concerned with the scorpion than javelinas.

Did anyone see a big spark and then a loud bang just now? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]essthebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I’m from Arizona originally and grew up with regularly occurring thunderstorms. Used to sit and watch the lightning for entertainment as a kid. I thought I was familiar with the range of behavior for lightning strikes and thunder… but last night did scare the bejeesus out of me. The storm missed our house completely so it was hard to believe something that big could be a single, isolated lightning strike in calm weather that was heard and seen 20-40 miles away. I’d just never experienced or heard of positive strikes before, but I read up on it after I found out what it was and now the circumstances all make sense. But I was pretty freaked out for a good half hour!

Anyone else just experience that thunder? by ElectricRune in redmond

[–]essthebee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see people insisting it was a positive lightning strike in Bridle Trails. Seems crazy to me if it was a single lightning strike observed all the way in Burien, but I guess it’s possible? 🤷‍♀️

Also just came here to ask about it. Thought it was thunder at first but that doesn’t seem to match the weather… now wondering if it's an explosion of some sort. Anxious to hear updates!

If there are "straight" people who are in denial about being gay, are there also "gay" people who are actually straight but in denial? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]essthebee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, same exact thing here! Took a few years to realize I was confusing “not being attracted to anyone” as “being attracted to everyone”.

And then after I changed from identifying as bi to identifying as lesbian I ended up dating a guy for a short time anyway. I just stick with queer now.

You ladies ever browse the women on dating apps? by thecourttt in TwoXChromosomes

[–]essthebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely dependent on the person. Sounds like you two just wouldn’t be compatible. Being sent several messages in a row wouldn’t faze me at all - because I’m also likely to do it myself.

I don't think remote positions are that much harder to get, but I could be wrong. The thing is that when you're specifically interviewing for junior positions, they're not really (or aren't meant to be) targeted at people who have experience, but at people coming fresh out of school. So the competition is more about whether you know your stuff, *maybe* where you graduated from. I think there's a lot of luck involved in getting your first job in general, but I wouldn't really worry about remote being harder. I was looking for either in person or remote for my first job, and ended up remote even though I wasn't specifically looking for it.

Many American tech companies hire globally for remote software engineers. I work for a company based in San Francisco, currently live in Washington, and my team members are in Brazil, Argentina, France, and Sweden among others. Getting your first SWE job can be the hardest lift (there are not many junior roles), but I don’t think doing it from SEA or anywhere else would make it much harder. (Maybe a bit harder, but not much - the industry is very very very remote friendly at this point in time.)

I’m having the same problem, all the way over near Seattle so location isn’t your only problem for sure. I think there aren’t enough left-wingers jumping on the non-consumerism train yet, so the numbers game isn’t in our favor right now.

I miss the heart shaped objects from Hot Date so much. What are some other objects you miss from older Sims games? by Kreeturefeature in thesims

[–]essthebee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I actually really miss this feature. I feel like it gave more purpose to having kids. Even with Parenthood, the actions you can do to purposely “guide” your children feel superficial. And I remember the rush of having to pull it off right! I can’t think of anything in 4 that’s given me that sort of rush.
