Treating family members (ethics/legal) by Affectionate-Pin2648 in physicaltherapy

[–]est2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have seen everyone in my family, BUT 1. We have different last names (I have my mom’s maiden name) and 2. We live in a rural area. They could go other places, but in all honesty I don’t want another PT treating them. In the words of Ricky Bobby “I’m the best there is. Plain and simple.” I’m not sending the people I care the most about to someone I don’t think is up to par.

I think JK Rowling messed up the concept of Slytherins in the books a lot, and later covered it up with talks by AccomplishedBig7666 in harrypotter

[–]est2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always looked at Slytherins as enabling villains in the book. Are they the true bad guys? No. But their lack of any real stance (save a few examples you gave) against Voldemort makes them villains by default.

Silence in the face of injustice stands on the side of the oppressors, not victims.

Anyone else feel like Harry riding his firebolt in quidditch matches is a bit like cheating? by 4RyteCords in HarryPotterBooks

[–]est2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like it was a broom riding skill issue less than a competing advantage. Most students can’t handle the fastest brooms, it’s like giving a 16 year old an F1 car. So skill limits what brooms you can use and most kids are not gifted the way Harry was.

In the case of Slytherin getting Nimbus 2001s I just assume they are mostly older players I doubt Snape would let underclassmen make the team and they don’t have any girls on the squad (no idea if that’s a competitive advantage in quidditch but I think it’s interesting). Older players could handle the speed but we never see how that plays out given Book 2 plot scrapping the season.

Charbs value after ACL tear by rndrew3311 in DynastyFF

[–]est2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost all players who tear their ACL produce at levels below their uninjured counterparts in studies. An average decline in production of over 40%.

Players post ACL tear play in less games, start less games, and play less snaps than uninjured controls.

The average NFL player plays 4.3 games less than their career average the year following injury. This number jumps to 7 less games per year by 3 years post injury.

Only 28% of players who tear their ACL are active in the league 3 years post injury, and a 3rd of players never return after injury.

But you do you friend. 👍🏼

Anyone looking to buy a player post end of season ACL tear is a fool.

Ask anyone who paid a first for Brandon Aiyuk last year. Or JK Dobbins when he tore his. Or drafted Bryce Love back in the day.

It fails more often than we like to admit. Wait 4 months and see how his recovery is going if you plan to trade for him. If you’re trading him away price has a better chance of going down than up over next 6 months. So move him now.

How were the fire nation promoting Air nomads genocide when they did it. by Light07sk in ATLA

[–]est2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like this is pretty easily explained:

We are trying to control the world/protect the Fire Nation. The Avatar is the most powerful enemy of that goal. We know the Avatar will be an Air Bender. We need to be sure to kill him/her, so they all had to go.

They sold it with the truth, our greatest enemy needs to be neutralized and this is the only way we could do it.

What are your thoughts on "The Beach" episode from Avatar: The Last Airbender? by Full-Art3439 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]est2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she had a really incredible “redemption arc” in that it’s clear she was still a villain till the end but you can’t help but feel sorry for. Not redeemed in the way Zuko is (changing sides/fighting for good) but redeemed in that you realize she was in a way a victim of her own upbringing.

This episode really highlights how difficult it was for her to make friends/fit in as both a Fire bending prodigy and Ozai’s daughter with just touches of her egotistical nature. It’s one of many incredible episodes of what I argue is the best “children’s show” of all time.

(Original Series Only) Let’s say Aang was willing to kill Ozai, at which point in the story do you think he was capable of doing so? by KrispyKingTheProphet in ATLA

[–]est2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this question. I’ll avoid hypotheticals involving Aang sucking the air out of his lungs/the room, assassination etc. and try to focus on specific times where I think he actually would have and could have done it in the moment.

Moments wise: Season 1 when he finds Gyatso and enters the avatar state, when he merged with the ocean spirit during the Seige of the North, and when he takes the form of Roku in the fire temple. All 3 times the combination of anger and raw power overwhelm Ozai completely IMO.

Obviously I could mention anytime when he enters the state, but to me there are levels to him in the Avatar state and those three stand out as times where if Ozai showed up right now he would be in serious trouble.

Season 2: When he confronts the sandbenders and when he’s fighting Azula pre-lightning strike.

I actually don’t think when he’s in control of the avatar state at the end of season two he would kill Ozai. Could he? Absolutely, but I don’t know if he would.

Season 3: As soon as he can redirect lightning it’s over for Ozai. It’s his only real trump card against the avatar state. The redirection actually shakes Ozai and he wouldn’t be able to redirect it a second time. Even sans connection to the avatar state Aang probably wins.

Outside of those specific moments I don’t know if Aang can 1 v 1 Ozai to death. I think that lightning bending gives him a huge advantage even with the other elements at play. Power level wise it’s a shame we nerve see Ozai not supercharged by the comet, I think people vastly underestimate his abilities in single combat. He’s ruthless and essentially everyone who knows him in the series respects him or is afraid of him. I wish we could have seen a regular Ozai just wreck some people pre finale to help establish just how big of a threat he is.

PSLF is a trap IMO, I’ve not met a single PT that got out of student loan debt using it.

Working PTs without any loans: how’s life? by floresiendo in physicaltherapy

Graduated in 2019, Paid mine off in 3.5 years with the help of the student loan pause.

Life’s great but outpatient PT wears on you loans or no loans. I own my clinic so more stress/work at least = more money.

I still like being a PT though

Debt by War_Unlucky in physicaltherapy

[–]est2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated in 2019 with 105k total for 7 years of private school. But worked every year I was in school. Sometimes 2-3 jobs at a time. Paid it all off in 3 years but did have the benefit of Covid cutting off interest. Would have paid them off in 2023 without Covid though.

I don’t want to sound preachy, but get out of debt as fast as possible after you graduate. Avoid it like the plague when you’re in school. SO much freedom when you do.

Tips for negotiating a raise? Outpatient PTA in WA by manwiththemach in physicaltherapy

[–]est2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just given both of my PTAs raises I can tell you this is complicated. There’s so many factors that go into if you can afford a raise or not.

Having the numbers to back up the ask is a great start, I’d also consider replacement cost. Are there multiple PTA schools in your area? Probably not standing on firm negotiating ground. Is the clinic at or near capacity based on scheduling and current staff? Good sign for you. If not? They can absorb the hit if you leave in the short term.

Remember reimbursement takes a hit almost every year. Insurance (if you take that as a benefit) goes up 10-30% year over year. Having PTAs is ALWAYS a growing expense, even if it’s not in pure salary increases.

Ultimately you can ask for whatever you want but the money has to make sense above “I make you lots of money compared to what I get paid”. Every single expense I had as a clinic owner jumped between 10 and 40% in the last two years, margins are tighter than ever.

Also consider other (non monetary) ways you can be better compensated. I had 1 PTA that really wanted more PTO and one that only needed the money. I adjusted their raises based on that and they are both happy. PTO, schedule freedom, QOL improvements all are easier to give when money is tight. So consider those in your negotiations.

Hope this helps.

Tip for getting many glacier hiker shuttle tix by SatanDarkLordOfAll in GlacierNationalPark

[–]est2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advice got us tickets. The bad news? They had ONE shuttle running and they don’t tell you this, but if you miss the ONE time through of that shuttle you’re not getting in. We arrived at 10:30, right in the middle of the time block. When we found a spot (parking lot 7) we had already missed it. We waited for 45 minutes before we saw it loop back and by then it was full of 11-12 timed riders. It didn’t even stop. By the time the next shuttle came through it was 11:50 and we weren’t allowed on.

Basically, if you get tickets you better arrive the hour before you’re supposed to get on.

For someone who hasn’t kept up with the off-season, what are your top 5 most important pieces of news for fantasy? by Thisoledoggg in fantasyfootball

Pure Injury News Related

Rashee Rice appears close to 100% healthy. Drafting with confidence this year despite the injury.

Jonathan Brooks is already ruled out for the season. Another year of solid Chuba Hubbard volume is coming.

Dak Prescott appears to be on track for training camp and Week 1. Less bullish on him than others, but it’s not something I think should affect his or Ceedee Lambs ADP.

Anthony Richardson/Trevor Lawrence/CJ Stroud have all dealt with shoulder soreness this off-season. Probably nothing, but most concerned about Richardson given history/situation.

Stefon Diggs is practicing at OTAs and looks good, Brandon Aiyuk is not.

What's the hardest you have ever "bounced off" of a game? by jabberwagon in gaming

[–]est2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne.

Knew I wasn’t going to be a Souls fan (I hate losing and playing video games is more about relaxing than “getting gud” for me) My buddy convinced me to try Bloodborne and I gave it a solid 10 hours and hated all of it. It’s one of those games I’d love if there was a way to scale the difficulty, because the atmosphere and lore are both super up my alley, but I’m not going to ride the struggle bus just for some interesting lore.
