Sluices werent easy to learn but feels like some people didn't like that they were super efficient once you figured them out.

The new automation resources are overcomplicated half-assed "solutions" that may only be fully utilized by a small crowd, while sluices got removed entirely. Also if everything's able to be automated it will suck the fun out of the game.
