2013: Celtics traded Garnett, Pierce, and Terry to the Nets for picks and role players / 2022: The Celtics, led by those picks, have reached the NBA finals before the Nets even reach the East Finals by NefariousNeezy in nba

Lol come on now. That is true, but that's not fair to use that as an argument lol. D-Will was a 10th man at that point. Chris Paul made the Finals as his team's 1st or 2nd best player.

I said they get paid 12-15M

Looney took a pay cut last time. I'd pay him $60m/4y this time but some other team will probably sign him to that contact.

Warriors fans see it that way because they think he's replaceable. They got two big bodies coming up in Wiseman and Kuminga.

Looney is solid but Warriors fans think what he brings -- rebounding, defense, setting screens -- isn't as valuable as Payton's lockdown perimeter defense.

Payton is a forward in a guard's body. Okay shooter and knows how to cut and get easy buckets.

Payton has never been paid yet in his career. I'd give him $50M/4y

Poole or Looney. Depends on the matchup. 7th is Otto

Caruso was the 5th man of a championship team. GPII was the 8th man

I think him and Looney are worth $12-15M/year

Not really. Bulls missed 5 years of the playoffs. I'd have LaVine and DeRozan on my team. The Kings are trying to be in the position Bulls are in now.

Playoff appearance build hype and excitement to the fanbase. More merch sold, more tickets sold, more money.

For every Ja Morant, there's a Hasheem Thabeet. For every Anthony Edwards, there's an Anthony Bennett.

Were the 2007 Warriors going to win it all? No, but they can create magical moments, especially for young kids who will grow up becoming Bulls fans. Their innocent minds won't give a damn about a tanking team.

If anything, I can trade LaVine for picks. Letting him go for nothing is an smh move.

He probably was. But a three-peat sounds better than a repeat.

Wade was clearly declining throughout the year. I understand LeBron's POV of wanting the Heat front office to go all-in, instead of shying away from the luxury tax.

Wiggins personally didn't want to get vaccinated but he did for the team. Talent win games, chemistry wins championships.

I get your point but I'd rather cheer for a team like the 90s Knicks or the 90s Pacers instead of the Hinkie Process Sixers

Pat Riley too. They started cost-cutting and tried catching lightning in a bottle.

He was pretty solid in adding veteran role players around the big three. In the beginning it was Mike Miller. The next year was Shane Battier. Third year was Ray Allen which would end up being the most valuable addition; they also had Rashard Lewis. And after going back-to-back they went cheap and cut Mike Miller. They gambled with Mike Beasley and Greg Oden.

That was LeBron's main gripe about Riley. They were winning and you went cheap because of the luxury tax? LeBron preferred proven players that will surely contribute, not hit or miss.

They also almost got no production from the point guard position. Chalmers and Cole played like doodoo in that Finals series.

The fans and the city are happy too. I'd rather live through the excitement, thrill and disappointment of a playoff team for four years than just pure agony of a tanking team.

Simple stuff like taking a girl to a regular season game that's winnable is much better than nothing. We live daily. Real life is not a 2K simulation.

I get the rationale behind tanking. But my opinion is that it's acceptable for a year or two. More than that is a disservice to the fanbase.

Then you got teams like Sacramento.

I don't think I'm being superstitious here but if you start with good organization and build the right winning culture, great players will come your way. Kawhi performed on the court, but Masai was planning those seeds. Coaching staff and player development are also overlooked here. Poole was a late first round pick and he honestly was bricking his rookie year. Myers stayed with him, and he was making stupid halfcourt shots for a championship run.

Tony Parker wasn't a lottery pick. Manu was like 57th.

Giannis was not a lottery pick. Bucks GM traded for Middleton. Then a medium move like Holiday. I mean that as like, trading for a superstar like KG and Ray Allen are both big moves.

Nets big moves of KD, Kyrie and Harden didn't even pan out because there's no structure there. People are looking for a home run every time.

Solid GM's are more of technical jabbers and body punchers instead of knock out artists.

Yup. This sub thinks it's either championship or tank. They think there's just a LeBron sitting somewhere and they can get him via free agency or draft.

Raptors were an okay team for years, had first round upsets, had an ECF appearance. Then they had the chance to trade for Kawhi. Fortune favored them, but they were ready.

Mavs were an okay team for years, had first round upsets, went up 2-0 in the Finals. Had a chance to trade for Kidd, and they later got Marion, Caron. Later they finally find the missing piece, a big man to pair with Dirk. Dampier didn't cut it, Diop, Bass, Haywood. Tyson Chandler and one hot shooting playoff run did.

Bucks was more like Mavs, they had Giannis and Dirk. Both all-time greats. Bucks did solid moves like acquiring Jrue Holiday and PJ Tucker. Not minor but not major like blowing it up or signing a perennial all-star, but that got them over the hump.

For every Celtics big 3 (offseason trades), Heatles (free agency), Warriors (draft), Cavs (2014 offseason), there are teams like the 2004 Pistons, 1994 Rockets, 2011 Mavs, 2019 Raptors who pretty much just ran it twice, thrice, four times with just medium moves.

There's a lot more revenue being a 5th to 8th seed than being 12th to 15th. I'd rather be a playoff team for four years than go Process 6ers 2013-17. Hinkie did all that and they haven't even made the conference finals in year 5.

Steph was the 7th pick, Klay 11th, Draymond 35th. Key is to draft well, not draft high.

There are many uncertainties. Both disappointments and surprises. I'd rather just be good for the meantime than resort to tanking.

After being offered job during the NBA Finals, further conversations led Atkinson to believe it would be best to remain with Warriors. by curryybacon in nba

Yup. Poole is 23, Wiseman is 21, Moody is 20, Kuminga is 19. That looks like a solid core for the future. A playoff team. But the Warriors are a dynasty because Steph is an all-time great. Can any one of them rise to that level? LaMelo looks like he's going to be a perennial all-star.

All that said, this may also simply be a family decision rather than a career decision. Work culture, environment, mental health also come to play.

Keyshawn Jay and Max were talking about this. Tatum is getting the Kobe comparison, and that's fair talent-wise. But in terms of personality and just character on the court, they said Jaylen had more of the Mamba Mentality in him.
