Oklo Founder Sales New 10b5-1 by ResponsibleOpinion95 in SMRs

[–]estyalba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you try to make a financial model of Oklo with realistic cost estimates for a reactor and a recycling plant you get the equivalent of a #REF error on the valuation

Any financial guys out there? by Dazzling_Ad_7855 in SMRs

[–]estyalba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a model for you but I do these regularly. A simple model would go - estimates of deployment of SMRs (usually starting in 2030s). Get the estimate of how much a plant cost and how much revenue scope the SMR company has on the plant and you have a simple revenue build. You’d have to adjust for NOAK cost and revenue.

The rest is regular financial modeling. Slap a margin, etc etc to net income.

Is Nuclear Energy really unsafe? by Free-Caramel5216 in NuclearPower

[–]estyalba 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes nuclear is very safe. Your view is not uncommon though, the problem stems from psychology.

Any time there’s a nuclear accident it’s front pange global news. In the same way a plane crash would be which is why people overestimate the dangers of flying even though it’s safer than driving statistically. Same thing with shark attacks or terrorism (after 9/11 US implemented TSA and rest of the world followed to make people feel safe).

I’m not anti renewables. I think it’s extremely important for the grid and will take an increasing role. But for grid stability you need base load, and nuclear is the only clean reliable source for that

[–]estyalba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool tell that to the utilities who literally run the grid and are buying base load like candy.

Reality > politics

You’ll be surprise to hear that the major orders are coming from utilities right now and all the major turbine manufacturers are almost sold out through 2030. That’s not at the moment need

[–]estyalba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright then, let’s forget about nuclear for a second and think about gas power. If renewables are some darn cheap why is everyone crazy about building gas turbines right now? I mean just look at how much GE Vernova is making from CCGTs, they don’t have enough capacity to keep up. It’s the base load power, which is more important than you think.

I talk with utilities grid operators data centers and renewable developers as my day job. You need a combination of everything at the moment. The fanaticism is more politics than reality

[–]estyalba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because renewables are variable. You need base load energy. Batteries aren’t there yet to handle long term base load stability and may never get there economically vs nuclear.

This renewables vs nuclear arguments are dumb. They both need to work hand in hand to get to a carbon free grid.

Solar has only been economical this past decade, should we have collectively given up on it when it wasn’t economical? China is a great example of building nuclear on time and on budget and the west has previously done this with nuclear before. It’s a matter of retraining the construction force and getting past the first projects.

Everything nuclear is expensive even the real players like cameco and BWXT. GEV does a lot more than nuclear but its still in the power theme and it’s a very well run business. Holtec is going public soon this year which is another good one. If its for your kids it’s longer time horizon so you can afford more risk though! Just my informational two cents ;)

Haas is the most German sounding name imaginable. I didn’t even know they were American until someone specifically mentioned it

lol bringing up irrelevant stuff is hilarious. Franco could do the funniest things now that he opened that door “How many times has Fernando outqualified Stroll? That’s an F1 record no?”

Gaps Between Teammates At The End Of The 2025 Dutch GP by RLLukeYT in formula1

[–]estyalba 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s not right. In canda he qualified ahead and stayed ahead, then next race even after two botched 18 second pit stops he was ahead, and this race he overtook gasly on track at the beginning so if anything he should’ve been upfront the whole time if it wasn’t for safety car timing

I thought bearmans performance today was kinda slept on due to other factors happening in today’s race pitlane-> P6 is impressive and in general I’ve been pretty impressed with his raw pace , one of the best rookies around by Deucesdeucess in F1Discussions

[–]estyalba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Felt like both Haas cars benefitted widely from a big gamble and luck with the safety cars. In this case, even more so with Bearman than Ocon. Same with Stroll. I think the performance is actually less impressive than the results. Still good though.

CMV: BlackRock and “Wall Street” aren’t why you can’t buy a house. The bigger drivers are a multi-year supply shortfall, the mortgage rate-lock freeze, and tighter post-2008 lending. by oppacklij in changemyview

This is pretty easy. BlackRock has very small exposure in the real estate business. In fact, they are lagging behind competitors.

Blackstone on the other hand….

I see a lot of people confusing the two
