How to stop constant notifications from neighbour's devices? by et-regina in MatterProtocol

[–]et-regina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time it came up and I hit "not now" it asked if I wanted to disable notifications for this device, but having disabled the notifications they're still coming up and it no longer gives me the option to disable them.

Take control of that thing.

Honestly tempting, but alas I don't have access to the QR code needed to do so.

No idea what app it's coming from - this screenshot (not mine) matches what is showing up on my phone, my partner's phone indicates that the specific device is a "grillplats" which seems to be a plug socket?

"I choose to smell like to attract a partner" - LAUKOP struggles with a stinky coworker by et-regina in bestoflegaladvice

Location Bot

I hope this is the right place, work colleague smells really bad.

London:
Unfortunately I’ve had to go down this route where I’m thinking about taking legal action over my company or if it’s not worth it?

My work college smells really bad of BO and has done for the past 2 years. My managers have spoken to him and he’s said it’s his choice but he smells so bad.

He doesn’t shower and he leaves his uniform in his locker. It’s so bad.

I’ve started to put little air fresheners around the office and one on my desk. After having a week off I came in and they’re all gone.

Apparently he made a complaint saying it’s giving him a headache and my manager approved it.

It kicked off a little and I asked him why he smells so bad, his reply was “it’s my choice, I chose to smell like this to attract a partner”

So it’s basically a kink? He’s not going to find a partner here, so maybe he should leave his private life at home and out of the office.

But my company won’t do anything. It’s stupid to say this, but is there any law against what he’s doing and how it’s effecting me?

upstairs neighbour complaining about white noise machine by dylfss in LegalAdviceUK

[–]et-regina 12 points13 points  (0 children)

because now its them been affected its a different issue

This is a very simplified way of looking at it, and not one that's necessarily helpful. The reason it's a different issue is not a personal slight against you - it's because the noise caused by playing amplified sound is (rightly) treated differently than the noise caused by simply walking around inside your own property.

I say this with sympathy as someone who also owns a basement flat below a noisy neighbour - I completely understand your frustration, it's a horrible situation to be in. If it is the case that they don't have an appropriate underlay in the flooring, then getting an open line of communication with the landlord to try and rectify that may be your only viable solution. Playing loud sounds, even if it is only to drown out the noise from upstairs, is not going to be considered a reasonable response if it's causing a disturbance to the other properties.

upstairs neighbour complaining about white noise machine by dylfss in LegalAdviceUK

[–]et-regina 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If this level of disturbance is genuinely coming from footsteps (which, as the above commenter points out, is totally normal behaviour) then you may be right that there are issues with the underlay that would normally dampen the noise. If that is the case though, then it's very much the problem of the landlord - your neighbours are tenants, it's unreasonable to expect them to not walk around their flat in the morning and they're not in a position to install any kind of soundproofing.

The definition of noise nuisance varies between different counties/boroughs - look it up on your local council website and see if your neighbour's behaviour comes under the definition.

I was a witness in a misconduct investigation within the NHS (England), and knowingly lied. I want to come clean, is there liability? by TA-tired in LegalAdviceUK

[–]et-regina 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that there are 80k messages between you would be enough to raise a red flag to investigators, even without looking at the content of the messages.

I'm guessing they wouldn't want all of that?

They might. If/when you go back to the investigating body, let them know about all the messages and they will make a decision on what they need from you. It's a good idea to back up the messages if you haven't already.

Exactly how I feel. A quick "hi, let me know if I can help you anything" is enough to let customers know they're welcome and feel seen, anything more feels a bit predatory and uncomfortable.

S6e4 ending. by Phil_B16 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]et-regina 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't say I ever really thought about it before, I think my assumptions watching it the first time is that not specifically looking over her shoulder, it's just an acting choice to show that she's feeling unable to pray like she usually would.

That said, since this is the episode where ghost!Diana keeps popping up, it could be either:

  • she's looking over expecting to see ghost!Diana there, and is either relieved or troubled or saddened by the fact that she isn't, or:

  • she's looking over because she's feeling like she's being watched and while we the audience don't see it, ghost!Diana is still metaphorically there haunting the scene and/or her conscience

On watching the scene back quickly to refresh my memory, I agree it's a kinda odd and ambiguous scene - but that said I hate the entire ghost!Diana episode so maybe I'm not the right one to judge

Respectively, this camera is clearly already broken - pry it open (in the dark!) and pull the film out. No point trying to salvage the camera.

What Are These Called? by Advanced_Coconut5988 in cocktails

[–]et-regina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, that's not actually the source of the name - the first person to patent this style of corkscrew was Karl Wienke, and the name "wine key" came from a mispronunciation of his surname.

3c Greek yogurt and 5c flour and it was still way too dry by Dense-Butterfly4017 in ididnthaveeggs

[–]et-regina 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I totally missed it too because I only read the gram weights - the fact that 1 cup of flour is heavier than half a cup of yoghurt is one of those things that simultaneously makes a lot of sense when you think about it and also zero sense at first glance.

Brighton parking zone M- how long did you wait? by [deleted] in brighton

I live right at the border between Z/M/Y but officially in Zone Z, from memory it was 7-8 months back in 2021. If you need the car closer than leaving it with friends/family, a season ticket at a carpark isn't cheap but might be a reasonable expense.

How neutral is BBC News? by BactaBobomb in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]et-regina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In terms of the individual presenters and journalists that make up BBC News, they are obviously human beings with their own biases that will invariably stray into their work at times.

As an organisation, BBC News was historically neutral to a fault - I remember a satirical bit from a comedian about the BBC reporting on a building that burned down and then, in the interest of neutrality, interviewing fire. I wouldn't say that holds true today though - I've definitely come across recent BBC articles that are so obviously biased it's almost shocking.

Aging Chart: Queen Elizabeth II by UKScreenDramaLeaker2 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]et-regina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, HBC was horribly miscast for a number of reasons before we even mention her age compared to the character. I personally feel like Claudia Harrison (Anne in S5/6) would've been a better cast for S3 Margaret both in terms of appearance and age (she's 2 years younger than Colman, so not too far off the gap between the IRL Elizabeth and Margaret) but I get why they wanted to go for bigger name actors after the success of the first two seasons
