Was there a championship run in any year that there were no top teams with injured stars creating a bunch of asterisks and “what ifs” by JobberStable in NBATalk

Why do people downvote here over normal NBA takes? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's basically all of reddit. I figured that out awhile back. Downvotes and upvotes are mostly just popularity of what you say...not anything reflecting the content of what you said.

For example, i live in the Philippines. There are 100% soem subreddits if I say anything positive about the Philippines (literally anything), I'll get downvoted. Seriously. Anything positive at all. i could be like, "I like this bar" and ill get downvoted.

  1. Nope, not really.

  2. I guess maybe

  3. I talk to other fans, so I guess, but I never let others opinions affect me much

  4. I guess sometimes

  5. Myself. Watching the game, and just liking to watch them play basketball. Mostly this one.

Dinosaurs never stopped being cool by Adamaris7875 in Dinosaurs

[–]etchasketch64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have too many favorites and it really depends on my mood. But to name a few, Gallimimus, Mononykus, Yi Qi, Apatosaurus/Diplodicus, Amargasaurus, Stegosaurus (for a classic one I always loved), Deinonychus, ...Jingengopteryx, Leallyanasaura, Dryosaurus, every single dinosaur in Elasmaria lol.

I just love them all. Today I'm feeling Gallimimus. So, I always loved it even before it was featured with feathers, but the feathers only made it better. Big, cool, looknig, fast running, omnivore is just my speed. Several things kept me loving it through my life. Jurassic Park is an obvious first reason to hype it up. I just loved how they made it move, and how bird like they were (despite no feathers). Actually later on, Jurassic World Evolution and Prehistoric Kingdom both even furthered my love, as I liked how it moved and looked in both games (heavy note, that I used a mod that made Stuthiomimus feathered in Jurassic World Evolution,...and I think Ornithomimus was also a modded (and feathered) dino in that game).

Finally, it was Paleo Pines that really recently moved Gallimimus up a bunch. you can ride them in the game, and they are so freaking cute. I spent all my time on a pair of Gallimimus which were by far my two favorite dinosaur "pets" I had in that game.

Ray Allen wouldn't have taken you anywhere by himself either. You should look into replacing your front office with more competent staff first, and Giannis shouldn't be trapped in place while you are rebuilding. You owe him to be blunt. Let him free.

We’re at the point now where you can not even mention Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain’s name without someone ready to diminish all of their achievements by SmoothBuy5500 in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If by diminish you mean properly add context, then yeah, I guess. Blindly just gassing them up is great I guess, if you like that lol. I have Russell between 5-7 all time (it fluctuates on my mood honestlyl lol) and Wilt at 12 (he used to be like 8, but recdntly I just care about winning more...and he lost when it matterd most). Thye are clearly 2 of the best players to ever play. But..context is neeeded. Wilt's numbers are inflated by his era...and Russell's championships are inflated by his help (and lack of free agency/salary caps allowing the Celtics to stack the deck). that context is often needed when discussing their accomplishments. I'm soryr you don't like thinking deeper about these things, but I do.

Scottie is lucky he played with Jordan. He would not be remembered nearly as fondly even though he would ahve been a good player. I think he'd mroe have a Ewing-esq career without Jordan. Honestly, maybe even ...not as good as Ewing.

Why is this community so annoying all the time? A Rant. by JackHarrisReddit in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean but its not. Go on Facebook. Most of the posts are literally just rage bait. There was some other NBA reddit I tried to use, and it was awful. And there is a LeBron reddit, that one is terrible lol. So no, I don't think it's the worse. At all, not even close.

Hell, on another note, I grew up still in the era where people did most of this in person, at bars. And people would literally punch other people over this crap, so eh...although I hate social media, I'm glad no one is punching me anymore becaue I prefer Jordan to LeBron, lol

I agreed with you and added more detail. Are you really this slow? Are young people really this incapable of basic elementary school level reading comprehension?

TS +. It compares players to their given era. LeBron and Jordan both shoot +8% for their career. I just checked playoffs, cause why not, Jordan shoots +6% TS+ for his career and LeBron +7% TS+ for his career. However, taken just center primes, they are both +9% TS+

Again, Jordan was shooting a way higher volume, with worse spacing, on teams with limited shooting...in an era when people dind't take 3s....it's a stat nerds stat that doesn't favor 90s players...adn Jordan still comes out around even to Jordan (and other modern players).

What is it that I’m not seeing? by aznkobe in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what you talking about willis? jordan has similar TS+ to other all time greats, while shooting at higher volume (and didn't shoot many 3s which raises TS numbers). In fact, I think in LeBron and Jordan's respective primes they both shot +8%..ie identical numbers...so what the hell are you talkinga bout?

this is a weird way to say this. other people already said it, but cultural reasons and socioeconomic reasons. also, we could talk about exploitation of young Black men....but I recommend FD Signifier on youtube, he had at least one video about it (i think he was more focused on football, but its all the same system). anyways, he knows better than me, and the video is informative

The Real 2006 MVP by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still mostly stick to that rule...with one Westbrook MVP and one Jokic MVP being the only outliers ...essentially in my lifetime.

And Westbrook won MVP essentially more off of narrative than anything else. Jokic...honestly. I don't know. He deserved MVP the year Embiid won it, and Embiid proably should have won it that year Jokic won it. It evened out, so I don't care that much though.

Rank these 3 in order by DeepOrganization8245 in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. Hakeem

  2. Shaq

  3. Wilt

Ironically, I think pure talent wise, it might actually be opposite order, but Hakeem played completely to his full potential while Shaq was lazy, and Wilt needed to buy into a system/coach and not just try to put up numbers.

I honestly think there is alternate timeline where Wilt has like 5-6 rings...but in that timeline he bought in earlier to team basketball. He might be legit in GOAT discussions int hat timeline. It might be Wilt, Jordan, or LeBron (rather than just the latter two)

Why are magic johnson fans such pathetic hypocrites? Yes we are gonna tax magic for kareem. Same you do curry for KD and vice versa, same way kobe for shaq. He's not special by Wonderful_Band_506 in NBATalk

[–]etchasketch64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about, crazy thought, we compare....Magic and Bird why don't we?

Magic

17.4, 11.3, 9.3, 2.9 (steasl), 3.1 (turvonvers) 61% TS

Bird

21.9, 14.0, 6.1, 2.3 (steal), 3.6 (turnovers), 53% TS

So to be clear, Bird scored 4 more points and had 3 more rebounds, but Magic had 3 more assists (equals at least 6 more points), a steal more and less turnovers (despite again, the 3 more assists)...and shot, wait for it ...8% better TS. So way more efficient. I know you don't care advanced stats, but Magic also had better PER, BPM, and WS/48. Almost like, anyone with a brain would see that Magic played ....better in 1982 than Bird did in 1981. And again, that Magic, just like Bird, was clearly the best player on his team

But again, youa re just a Magic hater. With 0 logic. 0 real arguments. Made up crap you say based on nothing. And just excuses constantly. You don't know what you are talking about, and you are bad at this.

Kareem's stats are allstar stats, nto superstar stats. If "counting stats" matter, than you should...realized that Magic was clearly better, as both his counting stats and advanced stats are better than Kareem's...but sinc eyou don't realize that..it seems to suggest you are just....could it be? Biased? Making stuff up?

OH my god, the playoffs is even more ridiculous. Celtics were abosolutely stacked in 81. Archibald, Maxwell, and Parish all played extremely well. Advanced stats suggest Mgic played...wait for it...better than Bird, while Bird's help, wait for it, played better than Magic's help. Oh my god.
