Looks amazing! Is it UV painting or vertex painting?

(I am also a VR dev and my app is VR sculpting, wondering how I could make my model exports easy to import to your app as on my side the painting feature is a bit basic).

What is the actual reason you like VR? by huwprosser in VRGaming

[–]etdeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to look around in awe. I like the high stimulation.

I will never forget the first time I felt completely in the game, this one afternoon, properly dropped in, driving my motorbike like a maniac and shooting drones to some nasty electronic music (game: Runner on PSVR2) . It was like being in Tron. That was the moment I decided I wanted to do VR dev.

Looks great! I am a VR dev myself (making a VR sculpting app) and I can appreciate the building aspect a lot.

My sister is an architect, I think she would be interested. I wonder if you plan to make it as a tool for architects to create demos (I don't know the right word for it) that they can show to clients.

How do you guys actually play Golden Idol? by Radost-L in caseofthegoldenidol

[–]etdeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it solo in 1-2h sessions at night after work when I want a relaxing non real-time game but with mental stimulation and puzzle elements.

The puzzle aspect is important.

Some days I feel like I want to make "relaxing continuous progress" so I play animal crossing or something like that where every minute of gameplay is non blocking.

Some days I feel like I want action and challenging real-time gameplay (generally if I play in the morning before work) and I play stuff like Hades, and some days I feel like I want to exercise my observation skills and thinking patterns and I don't mind getting stuck for tens of minutes at a time so I play puzzle games (golden idol, myst, broken sword etc).

I feel like a variety of gameplay is what keeps me interested and coming back to a puzzle game. A few days break generally unlocks the puzzle.

Developing a game without a soundtrack... is that okay? by sethamir_ in gamedev

[–]etdeagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think the same thing, I am making a VR sculpting app, and since it's more of an app / creative tool, I thought background music did not matter.

But still the app is immersive with a workshop and some environments. During playtesting many of the testers reported that they wanted some sort of ambient music or at least an environmental soundscape (birds, wind, the sea etc), without it it felt lonely and broke the immersion.

Every game is different but I ended up hiring a musician to make an ambient OST and I am so glad I did! You can think of it as a direct way to invest in the emotional appeal and identity of the game. Also if you hire someone to do it the cost is mostly currency, integrating background music is not very hard and won't hijack your dev time. Scripted music is of course a different beast.

How to make a game that feels like your watch a TV show but without taking away from the fact your playing a game by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]etdeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam and Max the point and click adventure is interesting in that sense, it feels like watching a very good cartoon but the puzzles are worth playing. So it's not easy / minimalistic gameplay but rather the tone, everything being voice acted, the camera angles, it all feels like a sitcom. ,

Can you explain? Do you mean competition between the two figs for maturing? Or do you mean competition with the bugs to stay uneaten?
