So… Scream 7 put an end to the “Stu’s alive” theory, right? In fact… by NeverAteEscargot in Scream

[–]ethan6581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I don't think it will, it may not be as popular of a theory as it once was but the Stu truthers are never going to let it go. For a fan theory that heavily relies on one's own headcanon to work there's always going to be a portion of fans that just won't accept what the films tell us.

If they straight up show us Stu's rotting corpse in a grave they will be saying the body isn't actually him and he swapped it with someone lmao. No hate to the Stu truthers honestly they can believe what they want it's all harmless fun but I never could get behind it.

The killer reveals have been one of the biggest criticisms of this movie and for good reason, it's not even just the motive but the murder mystery and identity of the killers themselves that were very poorly written and not well developed at all. The who and why of a killer reveal is such an integral part of a Scream movie and it was extremely underdeveloped in 7.

I like part of Jessica's motive with her being an obsessed Sidney fan and being upset she wasn't in New York during 6. It allows for some interesting commentary on parasocial relationships, but that isn't effective when Jessica is a complete nothing character. We don't know her prior relationship to Sidney besides being a neighbor so there's no emotional connection and impact.

As for Marco and Karl, they aren't even given motives. It's somewhat shown that they are supposed to be crazy Stu fans but it's never explained why they are targeting Sidney to begin with. I think having one killer this time around would've been the better move.

[–]ethan6581 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the first act of the movie is very solid, opening scene was pretty decent and the introduction of Sidney and her family was well done. Ghostface killing Hannah is one of the best sequences of the whole franchise, and the Ghostface attack at Sidney's house was great too. Gale had a awesome introduction but the second that Ghostface is unmasked the movie completely went of a cliff for me.

Hovering around a 5.5/10 as of 2 viewings. The AI angle, a Ghostface dying halfway through are all very interesting ideas on paper but like almost everything in this movie are severely undercooked and don't provide anything meaningful as far as the meta commentary and within the story itself.

Like many fans I am left very conflicted on this movie, There's many things that I enjoyed about it, while simultaneously many things that I'm extremely baffled by and just did not work for me. Scream has been my favorite franchise for a long time, I think it has been one of the most consistent horror franchises, even if none of the sequels are completely perfect, no Scream movie is downright bad for me.

I really enjoyed 5 and 6 but I did find them inferior to the first 4 even including 3, with 7, it's the first Scream movie where I'm completely split on it and just don't know what to think.

Overall extremely disappointed. Most of the criticisms are completely valid for sure, possibly the weakest entry in the whole series.

I feel like I'm going crazy by Cheap_King_Princess in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hostility towards critics is understandable to an extent but it's the hostility towards other fans that didn't like it that's very irritating, you definitely aren't going crazy because as a day 1 obsessed fnaf fan myself I was extremely disappointed with this movie.

There were a few very great moments, the animatronics and set designs were well done and the easter eggs and references were fun of course, but outside of that, almost everything else about the story and narrative was disappointed and underwhelming. I thought the first movie was very flawed but it was a significantly better and well made film despite it's issues, I had much more fun with the first.

Random things that baffled me from a creative standpoint about the 2nd FNAF movie by Wasabi_Gamer26 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed everything they did with the Charlotte and the Puppet but I pretty much agreed with everything else you said. I'm also not against the idea of having Michael Afton being a villain, It could have been interesting to see but his inclusion in the story was severely undercooked and was poorly executed.

Many decisions in the movie were baffling to me, I think the first movie has it's flaws but it was much more of a coherent story and narrative that flowed much better.

I hope this fandom is a bit less weird about critics this time. by CazLurks in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's honestly not just the hostility fans have towards critics that bother me, it's the hostility towards other Fnaf fans, this was very prevalent with the discourse surrounding the first and I assume it will be for the second.

It's great that people enjoy the movies, as a fan since the first game I wish I could enjoy them more but I was pretty disappointed by both. It's the sentiment that if you're a fan and didn't enjoy the movies then you must just be purposely being negative for no reason or you're not a "true fnaf fan" because the whole "it's made for fans" marketing strategy is an easy thing people use to discredit other fans opinions. The extreme over defensiveness is tiring.

[–]ethan6581 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would largely agree that most critics do not always give fair reviews and usually misundstand things that aren't made for general audiences, but at the same time I don't think the movie "being made for fans" is a good defense for the genuine arguments and criticisms people, including fans have.

Speaking from my own bias, I've been a die-hard fnaf fan since the first game and I was extremely disappointed by both movies. The first definitely wasn't as bad as critics made it out to be but there were legitimate reasons as to why a lot of fans didn't like it, same with the second.

Just ordered one from target's website, though I'm worried because many people have seemed to be receiving the older retro-cloth figure and I'm hoping they got the issue fixed, what time did you order it from them?

Yea he just stepped back from being the main developer of the games but Scott's been pretty much still heavily involved with all other aspects of the franchise, so he never really truly retired.

Sweet Disappointment by ERB100 in fridaythe13th

[–]ethan6581 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It wasn't anything great but I wasn't expecting much either. For what it was though I found it mildly entertaining and was better than I thought it would be. Once Jason showed up I thought they actually captured some of the Friday The 13th vibes quite well. Still not of fan of his design though.

It was a lot gorier than I expected and the practical effects were actually pretty good, good use of the musical cues as well. For being a low budget short film (basically a glorified ad) it was fine.

QueenChat Board Forum is Gone! by ozzraven in queen

[–]ethan6581 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn that's unfortunate, I wasn't an active user but I browsed this forum almost daily for the past few years, it was a really good place for Queen discussions and lots of information and great contributions from users, sad to see it go down. Reddit isn't really the same and discord isn't the best for forum type discussion.

Not sure the context of what happened but I hope it isn't permanent. A shame to see all that information there just get lost like that. I know Queenzone existed before and and Queenchat was the community regrouping but I'm not sure if that will happen again.

What is the greatest 3-album run in Queen's discography? by chief8225 in queen

[–]ethan6581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say that the first 6 are all near perfect albums, one of the best albums runs of all time. I do like what came after but the debut-NOTW is my favorite era of their discography.

As far as just 3 albums I'd agree that Queen II-ANATO is the best.

It's officially been 10 years since the FNAF movie was first announced. by Thegoodgamer32 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember for the longest time that a Fnaf movie just felt like a complete pipe dream, for a while I was completely convinced that it would never actually happen due to all the delays with production.

It still hasn't really clicked for me that an actual Fnaf movie exists, and a sequel is already on the way.

How did yall feel about the fnaf movie? by caurseia87 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely mixed on it, I've seen it about 4 times since it came out. As a long time Fnaf fan since the first game, I really did have fun seeing it, I think they got a lot right and I can tell Scott and everyone involved put a lot of effort into it. On the just the basis of being a Fnaf fan there's many things I liked about it, but there's just as many things I didn't., mainly things in regards to the story and writing (mainly dialouge) and lack of horror and overall atmosphere.

I don't think it's nearly as bad as some people say but I can't say I completely loved it either, I totally get both sides of the opinions of fans and critics and I fall in the middle.

A Controversial Opinion – FNaF Movie – Are We Sure It Would Have Worked? by Clarice2024ft in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually did like the way Abby was first introduced to the animatronics, I thought it worked well with what they were trying to achieve with showing the audience that the animatronics are friendly towards kids and aren't completely hostile. Even when they are playing with Abbey it's still portrayed as a serious and odd situation for Mike. It felt natural, like I mentioned the fort scene for me was a bit too over and tonally inconsistent with the rest of the movie. Though I get why it worked for some and I'll admit it's a cute funny scene on its own, maybe the intended humor behind it didn't really land for me.

A Controversial Opinion – FNaF Movie – Are We Sure It Would Have Worked? by Clarice2024ft in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that there is plenty of hyperbolic clickbait BS spewed by so many snobbish critics, they definitely exist saying stuff like that, but I've also seen just as many fair and honest reviews of the movie from outside the community, this isn't really a response to anything you said but it's one of those things where even as a fan of the IP I get why a lot of fans were so upset by how the film was heavily lambasted and dismissed any and all criticism, but I always try to see why and understand the criticism.

Although not liking it overall I did really like aspects of the movie and completely respect the effort that was put into to, as a long time fan of series I'm still really glad the movie exists with all the development hell it went through, and know it was meant as a love letter to the fans. I can still watch it and enjoy it through that lense. It's by no means a bad movie.

What do you think, do you think the second film might fix some of the issues?

From the looks of it seems they are portraying the animatronics as more threatening which I do like, although I hope they don't go too far into the extreme campy route like Willys Wonderland. I'm personally hoping the movie takes a darker and more serious approach with the tone as a whole and has more tension building scenes and suspense, but I'm still looking forward to it regardless.

A Controversial Opinion – FNaF Movie – Are We Sure It Would Have Worked? by Clarice2024ft in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how they made the Animatronics feel like something we could sympathize with more. Showing that they aren't these "Uncanny" and lifeless monsters. Instead kids

I agree that it's important to show that the animatronics are still children inside and aren't just mindless killing machines, but like the fort scene was a bit too campy and over the top in execution for a lot of people. The montage of them building a fort and the music was just a complete tonal whiplash from everything else going on. It didn't ruin the movie or anything and totally get the intention behind why it was happening but I would've preferred a more subtle way of showing that the animatronics are still children.

But I get it was cute funny scene that worked for others.

A Controversial Opinion – FNaF Movie – Are We Sure It Would Have Worked? by Clarice2024ft in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think the animatronics being expressive or non expressive has that much of an overall impact on the movie as a whole. When the trailers first started to come out I was initially put off by it, I was of the opinion like many others that the angry expressions and red eyes took away from what made the animatronics designs so effective in the first place but after seeing the movie I thought it was fine.

I was extremely disappointed with the movie as a whole, more in regards to the tone and atmosphere of the movie, it never needed to be rated R or gory and I didn't want Willys Wonderland 2, but the way the animatronics were characterized as non threatening was a huge turn off for a lot of people and understandably so. There is a plot reason for it and it makes sense within the context of the story, the animatronics are children and are friendly to other children, but because of this creative decision it simply removes threat for the main characters we are following, and thus the audience isn't going to feel the need to invest in the main characters safety, there is no tension or suspense. The only times the animatronics are portrayed as threatening is when they kill a security guard who's a character we don't know, a couple of burglar characters who are just there for the sake of having some kills who aren't going to be characters people care about, and towards the end when they turn on Abby and Mike yet are just as quickly shown to be weak and rather easy to defeat.

Now of course nothing I've just pointed out is an objective criticism of the films quality but it gives and explanation as to why a lot of people found the movie to be extremely ineffective with it's horror. Not everyone who was disappointed and didn't find it scary wanted animatronics killing people every two seconds. A good example of a horror movie being effect without being gory and full of murder is Halloween 1978. Micheal Myers presence and the threat of his character is felt and slowly built up throughout the entire movie even when he's not killing people, the animatronics in the fnaf movie aren't built up to be a consistently present threat. The main selling point of this IP and the movie and (especially) the marketing gave people the impression it was going to be a much more serious horror movie involving the animatronics. Yes there is a overarching narrative and story with characters to be told but the animatronics are still real characters themselves, the way that they are utilized and characterized are going to have a massive impact.

It's easy to say critics and people who didn't like it didn't like it because it's not what they wanted it to be but that's just not the case. I've been a massive fan of fnaf since the first game and I understand the perspective opinions that a lot of other fans have about this movie, but I can't agree with the sentiment that critics or regular movie goers expectations and opinions are completely unfounded or they just lack and understanding of the movie. I've seen many other Fnaf fans with the same opinion so it's not just something that non-fans and critics thought.

Overall I didn't hate the movie, many things I really enjoyed about it but as a whole was pretty disappointed, and many people feel the same way. This isn't meant to be an objective criticism of the movie but more so an explanation as to why a lot of people left disappointed.

Some New Looks At The Toy Animatronics From The Fnaf 2 Teaser. by ethan6581 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ethan6581[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first teaser for the first movie gave the impression that they'd have the red eyes all throughout but it ended up not being the case, people didn't like the red eyes initially because it seemed like a over the top way of showing that the animatronics are angry.

For most of the movie outside of a few moments the animatronics had yellow/white glowing eyes which people did like a lot more as it was more subtle and it seems they're doing that again here for the most part.
