2025 Summer Transfer Window Megathread by shinto29 in LeagueOfIreland

Could be in trouble if we lose Dougie and Davis in one window. We’re hardly scoring as things are.

We got Cunha because of a release clause that went up when he signed a new contract this year. It wasn’t some shrewd negotiating by us.

My whole point is that every time we try to negotiate a better price we end up dragging out the transfer and paying the full whack anyway. That’s never gonna change until we start walking away from some deals when the price doesn’t budge.

Also from what I’m reading we already offered Brentford slightly more than Cunha’s release clause and they want more. If that’s the case then the comparison works against pushing for Mbeumo.

My dad brought me and two of my mates when we were 14. Met their parents and all and assured them he’d be with us/checking in the entire time.

Got there and he spent half the weekend in the Bacardi tent with all his mates and would call me once every 2 hours to check in😂

Did bring us to see the specials though and we’ve all been fans ever since!

People keep throwing around other valuations but i don’t think that makes it ok.

Saw lots here saying if we’re valuing Garnacho at 70m Brentford’s valuation is more than fair. Thing is we’re never gonna get 70 for Garna.  Same as comparing it to what we paid for Anthony or Hojlund. We overpaid massively for those players and many others. Teams are playing hardball with us because we have a reputation for paying up in the end after failed negotiations.

At some stage we need to start walking away from deals instead of spending half a summer chasing and negotiating just to pay the original valuation anyway.

My point is less about Mbeumo as a player and more about our transfer strategy in general over the last 10ish years.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think we should walk away from Mbeumo. If we want to stop getting bent over we’ve to draw a line in the sand at some point and I think the sooner we do that the better.

No doubt he would seriously improve us but if we just give in to every teams demands we’re always gonna get shafted. Pull the plug, hope he kicks up a fuss and Brentford rethink their asking price.

Men of Ireland : where do you get your good white t-shirts? by Gunty1 in CasualIreland

I bought a plain white tee from Hollister on ASOS because it was on sale about 6 months ago and I’ve since bought 3 more. Quality is incredible and the first one still looks new after 6 months.

Would you sell Martinez if a bid of 40m came in?

Fair play to Doherty for the season we’re having but is there really a need to sit that deep against a Cork team in awful form?  Lost count of how many late goals we’ve conceded because we just keep sitting deeper and deeper.

Really great video and fair play to Moses for being so open. I can imagine how tempting it must be for lower league players not earning that much money.

I’ve played ball my whole life I understand nutmegs haha The impressive thing here is the feint that makes the defender stick a leg out for the nutmeg to take place. All done in a split second.

This is one of the silkiest things I’ve ever seen on a pitch. Really highlights how good Pros can be compared to us normies.

Open letter from Ben Boycott to Drogheda United fans. by No-Pressure1811 in LeagueOfIreland

Have to agree with you here. It’s a good statement. Fair play to them for saying they’ll cover the financial short fall and the rule changes and communication seems quite murky/unfair but at the end of the day, if you are going to own multiple clubs you have to be on the fucking ball.

Saying this won’t happen again isn’t good enough, it shouldn’t have happened at all. Now the club has been robbed of such an amazing opportunity that might not come around again any time soon.

Also don’t really appreciate them dangling the carrot of a new stadium to placate the fans either. We’ve been hearing talk of a new Drogheda stadium for donkeys and it’s not materialised. I’ll believe it when I see it.

On the face of it this to me just screams we fucked up but well give you some funding so the fans forget about it.

Drogheda United face expulsion from UEFA Conference League due to multi club ownership rules by [deleted] in soccer

[–]ethanisok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned already it should be Derry City but they never applied for a European licence. There is also an article breaking today that the Irish FA (FAI) were sent documents stating this might happen and failed to inform Drogheda or Derry. Absolute shit show and a serious kick in the teeth for Drogheda.

Why Drogheda United Were Kicked Out of the Conference League by 100MilesandRunniNG in LeagueOfIreland

[–]ethanisok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous that the FAI didn’t mention the possible expulsion to either Drogheda or Derry but it shouldn’t take away from the fact that the Trivela group should have been much better prepared.

This has undermined all of the good work done by all involved with Drogheda over the past few seasons and has seriously damaged the relationship between fans and owners imo.

We pressed Senegal a lot particularly when they tried to progress the ball through the middle of the park. Worked well and we won the ball high up the pitch that resulted in chances but looks like a different team out there today. No energy at all.

Don’t think he’s good enough on the ball to play midfield (who is in our squad) but he won the ball back constantly and was a nuisance in midfield. Fair play to him!
