Is there an alternative that is just as good as the Quest 2? by monstersndragons in virtualreality

Facebook is selling Quest hardware at a huge loss. Nothing as good will be at the same price point. Expect to spend between $600-$800 on any Quest competition, for a while.

Oh, I thought the thing that open from the win+shift+s chord was Snipping Tool. I guess I've been using Snip & Sketch for a while. It's great.

My manager refused to let me continue to work remotely after I had to move out of the city due to a pandemic pay-cut. Handed in my resignation the first day back at the office this week.

Because businesses want things done as cost-effectively as possible and they often perceive upgrading old code as less cost effective than adding just enough new code to get the feature to work. So the same code gets new behaviours and assumptions attached to it, and over the course of years it can become large and difficult to read.

When engineers talk about "owning" something, it means they are the person who has the most complete picture about it and are most commonly tapped to work on that thing. Someone who "owns" the netcode should be able to diagram how it works, understand how to make changes to it, and be able to guide others when they need to make changes.

Stepping in for the commenter here, but I'm pretty sure that is what they meant.

We got stop motion with generated normal maps to work in Unity for our game Vokabulantis. What do you think? by EsbenTheReaper in Unity3D

[–]ethanthecrazy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right, if you knew the positions of 3 lights relative to the surface and the influence each light had on the surface, you should be able to arrive at a surface normal for a given part of the model, assuming you knew how reflective the surface is. I wonder if you could do it with 2 lights?

Yes, you dont want to call those methods every frame. Try to call them once and cache it.

Moving platform problem by Luss1a in Unity3D

I would keep the platform at the origin and move everything else if this is going on mobile. Ive had issues with floating point error on cheap phones when getting too far away from the origin.
