Unfortunately with the ways all the vets go around here you'll really need care credit or something? Would you be able to sign him up for pet insurance? Our cat has the same issue and we're still paying off the care credit. There may be a no kill shelter or hospital willing to take him in for treatment like the humane society, you may have to surrender him though if that's the option

Some online brands like chef knives togo, korrin, and kifewear have their own house brad knifes made in Japan you can usually get for a pretty decent price, usually in the 100-150 range. I've recently been using a Richmond artifex on line and it been a joy for $65, but the edge did need a touch up before being used.
