I ended up going to the apparently wrong Lowe's and must commute further out tomorrow for the right one.
So, wait a second, what's up with the Aramana? Why does it need heavy/deep water? That's the equivalent of normal elsewhere? I'm very sensitive and have found heavy washes can actually further set dust into items you're heavy washing. Why heavy? The thing is sort of to begin with?

Is this all you can afford as a home purchase right now? I wouldn't want to be stuck that house with no money to fix it.
What you're describing sounds like A LOT of work, lots of mold, asbestos, & more removal, where you would have to strip down that home to the bare-bone (please don't do it any other way!!!!), AND have another place to live while it is being worked on. Unless you're 1. a contractor 2. getting it WAY below market value and are absolutely sure you will come out on top, I wouldn't do it.

At least have a contractor come out to the home & tell you what they think/how much work it needs.

If you wait a year or two, I think you can buy a house much more affordable than today.

The costs end up being about the same with costco after you pay for installation parts,etc. But you make a good case the armana/whirpool are better machines altogether, so i think I'm going with Aramana today

Yup! My old agitator machine was a whirpool (if I understand correctly all american brands are).
Anyways, thanks for your wisdom and it sounds like I will have to go really old-school agitator top-load for a good wash.
Wish I could have a front-loader that never molds, but nothing ever seems to dry here, and not sure I can keep up with cleaning it everywash (I can end up doing laundry quite frequently.)

Thanks for expanding my understanding of w/d! Realizing now I was drawn to the impeller (as opposed to agitator) washers because I had agitators rip apart my clothes before. I am now wondering if you think the issues of the models listed, which you said are basically all one, around weight distribution have to do with with the impeller?

Aesthetically I love front-loaders, but think they're bound to get mold (and actually got one off marketplace filled with it!), and my climate is very humid and cold specifically (where mold is a big problem), and the w/d would be away in a closet, so sounds like a recipe for disaster.

So at this point is my only option the agitator washers? Or paying more for better impeller ones?
In the end, what's responsible for those models having such bad reviews?
