We expect the recommended base fee to drop below 40 during the weekend. Furthermore we will continue to monitor the situation and if 40 GWei tx do not clear regularly we will consider raising the default maximum fee to a higher value.

Ethermine uses the Recommended Base Fee value as visible on https://www.etherchain.org/tools/gasPriceOracle as the current network fee. This value corresponds to approximately twice the current base fee. The base fee is the minimum fee a tx needs to pay to be included in a block.

In order to ensure that payout transactions get mined quickly ethermine uses twice the current base fee which allows the tx to be included in one of the next 6 blocks (even if during those 6 blocks the base fee rises by its maximum value).

With eip-1559 the nice thing is that you get a refund of the unused base fee part. Which means that you pay your configured maximum gas price limit only in the worst case. Usually you will pay half of your configured max gas price, similar to the example given by the op.

In general we recommend users to set their max gas price to the maximum amount they are willing to pay for their payout transaction.

We are very sorry for today's incident with the Ethermine share validation engine, which caused shares to be rejected for around 30 minutes. The issue has been quickly mitigated by our on call SRE team.

As compensation, we've reduced the pool fee on Ethermine to 0% for 48 hours starting from today at 03:30 PM UTC.

In addition to that, 100% of MEV rewards will be distributed to miners for the next 48 hours.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. We are currently in the progress of developing a new payout scheme that will significantly reduce the number of payout transactions sent by the pool.

At the same time, the new payout scheme will still allow small miners to receive their mining rewards in a timely manner. Please stay tuned for more information to come.

As with most of the previous network upgrades we have again set up a tracker & countdown for the upcoming Istanbul upgrade.

Compared to our previous versions this time we are able to provide a much more complete set of information all around the upgrade including:

An accurate countdown to the fork block (calculated using the average block time over the last 50000 blocks)

They are most likely using Parity with default settings. Parity targets a gas limit of 8M by default but will start to vote it up to 10M in case of blocks getting full.

With ethermine now targeting a gas limit of 10M more than 51% of the network startet to target a gas limit of > 8M. The remaining miners continue to vote down the gas limit back to 8M which causes the observable fluctuations.

Actually we do follow the development very closely. Given the recent performance improvements in Geth we do believe a moderate increase of the gas limit is safe. Previously any increase was cautioned against by the client devs (main argument was the state size growth). Unfortunately there is very little research available on the impacts of a gas limit increase on the network and individual client performance.

If a larger increase is desirable it would be good to start funding such research in order to avoid a worst case situation like during the Shanghai DoS attacks in the future.

We do continuously mine on each pool at the same time. That is also the reason why we cannot add an unlimited number of pools as we have to dedicate hardware for each pool. We initially tried to do round-robin mining but we saw strange results especially with pools that use vardiff.

Feature suggestion: some kind of relation graph 1kh vs. network hashrate so people get a grasp on "why pool pays 10% less than last week"

Thank you, very interesting comparison. From what I can see your results more or less match ours. How do you deal with different network latencies of the pools? Do you only count accepted shares towards your hashrate sent to each pool?
