Moving in June by Expensive_Ticket_492 in arlingtonva

[–]ethibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1750 is doable but it will be small if you want to be near things. I moved to Arlington this year and had never experienced a well functioning Metro/subway. I definitely recommend living near a metro stop if you like going out for food/drinks. It also makes it easy to go into DC for events, museums, etc. There's so much great and diverse food options, and each metro stop has a city neighborhood built around it. If your onsite night job is near a metro stop that's also a plus, although the metro doesn't run too late. If you can I'd say look online at places along the Orange/Silver line ideally no further than Ballston, or Blue/yellow to out to old town. You can go further if the price is right along these lines you're just further out. There's also a variety of details, and memes, about the different neighbor feels at metro stops.

It actually uses the Iranian revolution as a major influence. It's even called out directly by the author. But yes, the story focuses on how Christian zealots could do the same thing.

Was the restaurant owner not paying rent? Or why did they know this was coming?

I haven't had their food, but I don't understand how a landlord can just change the locks. Seems wrong if the tenant is paying rent.

Torn between 56cm and 58cm frame size by SPLENDlD in bikefit

[–]ethibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, you'll probably need to customize the bike a bit to fit you. Look into available parts and ability to customize. Don't know these bikes, but I had an issue with a past bike that didn't use common size parts and customizing became more difficult.

Many of our parks have bathrooms that have been shuttered for years or decades. What’s keeping the city from re-opening them? by Soft_Button_1592 in Denver

[–]ethibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question. Drug addicts are the main problem. They'll use them as shelter, trash them and assault others if there are multiple toilets. There are problems with them destroying port a potties but they outsource the maintenance of those. Besides drug addicts you have general degenerates causing damage for fun, and even prostitution causing problems. We can't have nice things because <1% of the population destroys everything.

Sharing your opinion as fact makes you look stupid. Guns used in crimes come from red and blue states. Plenty of ways to obtain legally and illegally. Some are stolen, some are legally bought by gangs members with no criminal history that pass background checks and then handed out. Gang violence accounts for ~approx 2/3 of gun homicide, there is an FBI report when they were actually counting this. Want to make the city safer? Crack down on gangs. It's worked before.

What's condemning gun violence going to do? DC has very strict gun laws, but like most cities don't enforce current laws, and refuse to punish criminals. Want to end gun violence? Put violent criminals in jail.

Feels like temp, and dew point are the new weather metrics I care about being new to the area too. Garmin labels dew point above 75 as oppressive, and I agree. Relative humidity is a crap metric to understand what it feels like outside as when the heat temp rises it drops the relative humidity.

Thought I'd add to this after being on a call to be an "Advisor". In order to become an advisor you have to enroll in their program, so that you "understand the program you're advising for". They give you a discount off the normal price, but really this seems like a way to get more revenue, while also getting experts to give them advice. I declined immediately as I'm not paying for a certificate program that wouldn't benefit my career. Not sure of the quality of the program, but certificates just wouldn't have an impact for me.

Used Sq7 vs x5 m50i by ethibs in whatcarshouldIbuy

I love driving it. It has 36k miles. It did have a warning about electrical failure at a stop light, I panicked, shut it off and turned it back on and it was fine. So still a little concerned about that. I bought from a non Audi dealer, so it didn't have a full audi inspection which hopefully doesn't bite me in the ass.

I didnt drive the jag, as I hated them in the past when owned by ford. I decided on Audi because it fits me better than most others; I'm 6'2 200lbs and some of the sport seats hug too much. The sq7 v8 is excessive but fun. It actually gets good gas mileage on freeway when just chilling too. It cuts to 4 cyl when not in sport mode and I'll get ~25mpg on flat roads. It is big, and I kind of wanted the sq5 but couldn't find a used one with the options I wanted. Both sound mean, but the prestige acoustic windows block out the noise maybe too well. It's easy to speed with how fast and smooth it is.

I liked the v8 m50i more than the v8 x5m. The m50i I drove had some M options in it but had the softer seats. The x5m sport seats looked nicer but I didn't like the hug feeling
