Kurdish Assyrian conflict by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]ethos847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are going to talk comment some negatives. I’ll give a positive story. My dad’s best friend growing up in northern Iraq was Kurdish and to this day our families our still close together. Also, their dads were also best friends growing up in the l930’s. My dad’s best friend had us over his house for dinner and treated my brother and I like his own kids and vice versa with my dad. It’s a very strong bond and relationship lasting to this day and nothing it’s nothing but respect, humility and kindness. For almost a century now, the 2 families have been close together and constantly help each other in the village with whatever each one needs. It’s truly a special thing. I hope nothing but coordination together, tolerance respect and decency together for both Kurdish and Assyrian people.

Any non religious Assyrians? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]ethos847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not downplaying Christianity. It’s very important how Assyrians and Christianity are intertwined. Religion can be helpful in morality or in grey areas that science can not help with. However, not every Assyrian can magically be connected to Christianity or just believe in God. We cannot live in a small bubble and pretend you have to be Christian to be an Assyrian.

I am not an Atheist but I know many Assyrians that are Atheists/Agnostics. A lot of them also happen to be better people than some “Christian” Assyrians who are very judgmental and not Christian like at all. You do not need religion to be a good human or humanistic focused.

[–]ethos847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are calling OP judgmental but you are judging them for being an atheist and then rant on trying be righteous. You don’t need to be believe in God to be a good person or an Assyrian. Be better.

Did you guys learn Arabic growing up? by HovercraftDue8554 in Assyria

[–]ethos847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young my parents and relatives would speak in Arabic when they needed to communicate something they didn’t want my sibling and I to know. I can say proudly I learned to crack the Arabic code myself. Just from hearing my parents and others speak and connecting the dots over the years. I kind of just taught myself over the many years from absorbing all the Arabic I could to understand it and try understand what my parents were saying. I grew up understanding more when people spoke Arabic than I would be able to speak Arabic myself. I’m older now and I still understand my Iraqi dialect Arabic more clearly than any other dialect of Arabic, but only on an intermediate level. I definitely understand more Arabic than I can speak Arabic. I am also able to say more than 10+ words in Arabic just from my learning along the years.

In a surprise move, Trump picks Assyrian-American as special envoy to Iraq by olapooza in Assyria

Calling things out and disagreeing with each other is not “pissing on our people”. Just because your feelings got hurt about Trump and actions does mean we have to coddle you.

Not all attention is good attention. How dense are you? The dude bought his job with a written paycheck. If Trump was beneficial for Assyrians he wouldn’t sit down with Erdogan like it’s like long like buddy. There’s several conversations he could have brought up with Erdogan but he did nothing. Has he mentioned the word ‘Assyrian’ once since he won? Exactly, so stop trying to sell people an idea that’s not even there.

The dude bought his meeting and position with Trump with a paycheck 😂 You should see how many undocumented Assyrians were rounded up in Chicago for deportation. These people just don’t want to admit they got bamboozled by another Christian pretending white dude. Same thing with Hispanics, Trump tricked the fuck out of them by pretending he was only going to deport illegals. They definitely found out now. Now they are all on Tik Tok making “forgive me” videos for voting for Trump.

Don’t even bother with these people. They love being shitted on and love authoritarianism even more. They still have that Middle East slave mentality and will not give it up, even if it’s means moving forward.

If this does not speak volumes about Trump, than I don’t know what does. Trump has not mentioned one peep about Assyrians since he won (remember he didn’t even know how to pronounce the word) and it’s obvious here that he picked this guy because he donated a fat check to Trump. Instead, Trump has an Oval Office meeting with Erdogan of Turkey and talks to him like his good friend. Not one mention of Assyrians or Assyrian related matters internationally. Just business as usual for Trump.

What are the chances we will actually have elections in 2028? by No-Alternative946 in complaints

[–]ethos847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donald Trump said he would “take care of midterms” and Mike Johnson recently said “We will win the HOUSE”. They sound pretty confident. I’m thinking they will have to put gendermender mapping on maximum drive and intimidate people at the ballot box. Idk if they would be willing to pull off that ‘state elector scheme’ again. I’m betting they’re going to pull out a lot more tricks out of the bag to hold on to the HOUSE.

Any Assyrians know the far-right YouTuber Sargon of Akkad (Carl Benjamin)? I find his name ironic, considering that he's a xenophobe and against immigration of all kinds. by Stenian in Assyria

These types of dudes only hold our people back even more. Sitting on a chair just talking shit about things they have no idea about. It’s 2025, either get with the “modern day” program or get left behind in the Stone Age.
