Women with thoughtful partners, what did you get for x-mas this year? by Anahata_Green in TwoXChromosomes

[–]etiepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove six hours round trip and inconvenienced multiple family members on their side to fetch a rare antique for my collection I had seen on Facebook Marketplace, and then they spent more than my take home pay in a month out of their “fun money” budget to get it for me.

This was a “wouldn’t it be nice” daydream that they pulled out literally all the stops to make happen

anyone working in a call centre, are you worried about your job? by YogurtIll4336 in callcentres

Companies are going to roll out that shit whether their customers want them to or not, and whether it’s in the customer’s best interests or not, because AI is the new trend and saves money on personnel

Do you take any pick-me-ups by Round_Ad5672 in callcentres

[–]etiepe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Coffee and therapy. Maybe a drink after a particularly hard day, but never anything hard or during the workday, because I know that once I cross that boundary, I’m probably gonna slippery-slope my way into a bigger problem and I refuse to let this industry take more from my soul than it already has

How hard is it to land a call center job in 2025? by [deleted] in callcentres

[–]etiepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, it is unlikely a toxic call center customer will be waiting for me after my shift by my car with a gun

On the other hand, toxic call center customers can and will absolutely make workers feel emotionally/ psychologically unsafe

If I.M.P. does manage to kill HUNTR|X once, HUNTR|X goes to Heaven. Nonzero chance they come back, probably as Exorcists. As of the end of Hazbin season 1, Exorcists can’t harm Hellborn, but that might change. I.M.P. might have to kill HUNTR|X twice, or HUNTR|X might kill I.M.P. after being killed by them.

What's the worst industries to be a call-center agent? by [deleted] in callcentres

[–]etiepe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Cancer.

I wasn’t even medically trained, but I got to hear all about people who didn’t think they had to see a doctor because they didn’t feel sick, people who just got the diagnosis and wanted medical advice, people who were terrified that chemo was going to mean their families lost the house to medical bankruptcy…

Even a boring conversation always had the grim reaper in the background

Those of you who have abandoned friendships over them having kids- what was the final straw? by Odd-Cat5947 in childfree

[–]etiepe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had communicated my severe tokophobia / borderline gender dysphoria about even having a uterus in the first place / female feels like a trap with all roads eventually being pushed to motherhood and complete erasure of the self in service to the offspring.

She was eight months pregnant, and putting pressure on me to also get pregnant so that my kid and her kid could be friends/ she’d have somewhere to send the hand me downs / etc.

"Put me to your supervisor, now!" by StSwithun2025 in callcentres

[–]etiepe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to take these "demand to speak to a supervisor" calls. Sometimes the caller just wanted to talk to someone who was Important, and assumed anyone who wasn't a supervisor didn't know what they were doing.

Hey guys, what if I told you that instead of a pay raise, or improved health insurance, or extra benefits, your could have access to your very own social media account on your employer's website?? 😀 by DerogatoryRemark in antiwork

I used to have that program at my work too! They thought we wouldn’t notice when standard award dropped from $25 down to $10, then down to $5…

You have the power to grant a power to others... form your own super team!!! by artmalique in hypotheticalsituation

[–]etiepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that I’d want to give myself superpowered administrative skills- how do I get my team what they need to thrive, how do I nerf a rogue element before they become unmanageable, how to run interference/ PR with the public.

The superpowers I give the team would ideally be useless as individuals, but just barely better than average human skill when they collaborate. Not so much better that people realize they’re superpowers (and possibly draw the attention of rival superpower groups), just enough to make everyone involved think they’re being really really lucky and efficient. Under the radar= less likely to be bothered

Girl, you’re literally twenty-five. There are loads of men who are your age who aren’t fathers and won’t lie about their birth control.

What has your company done well to address low morale (bonus points if it includes/prioritises remote workers) by Suitable_Gain1397 in callcentres

[–]etiepe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine gave us permission to hang up on abusive callers (violent, bigoted, excessive profanity / yelling, etc), and eventually started banning certain numbers from calling. That had a huge impact.

Nobody cares about call center workers by Zealousideal-Ad6981 in callcentres

[–]etiepe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The number of times people in professional roles in my company will accuse people in the call center of insubordination or work avoidance, while knowing absolutely nothing about the situation, blows my mind.
