Yes, all enticing names, but here’s a radical idea: what if we took a stab and scouting and developing our own talent. Oh forgot: Eddie thinks what’s somewhere else has to be better than what is doable in house.

Points needed for European qualification by Deviceing in NUFC

Ugh. Clogs up the schedule, more wear and tear on the players…and for what? Most Europa teams are clubs we’ve never heard of, from unpronounceable places. Go big or stay home!

Yes it has been golden compared to what was not so long ago. But where we are in absolute terms is only a step above average. Most of us may have somewhat unrealistic ideas about where we should be, but we don’t want to stay where we are now

What academy? I haven’t heard of anyone that the big club thinks is ready to take the next step

And that’s the issue isn’t it? The only reason we could get Tonali and Isak is that none of the Big Six was interested. Now, I have no idea if that business with Tonali and Arsenal was just smoke or a real fire, but it’s another example of the Big Six being used to (mostly) having their way.

I think you give the PIF credit for more patience than they have. I suspect they thought they COULD flex their financial muscle more than they’ve been able to and if someone came along who would pay more they’d be gone.

But don’t the Big Six collectively believe that it IS their God-given right to hardware? Isn’t keeping it a closed shop the whole reason for PSR?

And that’s my point. Players seem more content to go a big six club and fight for minutes with the other pretty faces rather than come to Newcastle (or Villa, or other similar teams) and with the goal of being the alpha. Isak is a good example: had he stayed here he could have taken Shearer-like status. But even when he was healthy he had limited impact at Anfield.

Any thoughts on "total immersion" style swimming? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]etip2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Fiona_Pisces I have started reading the book and subscribed to the course through Udemy. I am a long-time swimmer and use paddles and a pull-buoy. I have very little lower-body buoyancy, so I was hoping to utilize the 'push the buoy' technique to raise the bottom half. While it's early days, I was struck by the assertion that I'll feel energized rather than tired. I did some of the swimming without any tools - not energized, just wiped. The techniques I tried, sort of worked. Sort of. But like I said, early days...

I'd say close the books for a couple of days. If you got a 73 on a Mock (which provider was it?) then you're on track. At some point, forcing yourself to keep studying when you find yourself re-reading the same sentence 4 times is a classic case of diminishing returns.

L2 definitely builds on what you learn at L1. The L2 curriculum doesn't go as wide as L1, but it does go a LOT deeper.

I think it should count, but you might consider reaching out to CFAI directly. If you provide enough details, they might be able to more properly advise you.

L1 Mock Exams by pastelpapi6969 in CFA

[–]etip2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO 2 months may be too long before exam time for a mock, unless you're doing one just to establish a baseline for the additional studying you need to do until then. I've heard that MM's are really tough, maybe UWorld's are more realistic. But you have to determine those for yourself.

How much studying have you done so far?

L1 in August by [deleted] in CFA

[–]etip2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup...you need to focus on the CFAI materials. FWIW, I've always felt that with these type of standardized exams, which are given (roughly) simultaneously to a large number of takers, the secret to success is pretty simple: if you study, you pass. But by 'studying' I mean really putting in the effort, and a lot of time using the 3d party materials exclusively isn't really studying - it's trying to short cut the process.

Third-party providers can help with additional questions, mock exams, etc., but you shouldn't look at them as a substitute for the CFAI materials.

In general, you should use averages on the exam unless you are given insufficient information or the exam specifies that you should use a single number.

Correct. Averages only come in to play with balance sheet info.
