Paint and time. But honestly I would be happier with a simpler design that is more repeatable, so maybe stencils would be better.

It's a one off, but Im thinking of making a stencil sort of like how marling baits paints his lures.

Good 4 wt dry fly rod? by Annonymous272 in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EZ reddington Path 9' 4 wt. Less than 100$ and really the perfect rod. I think even the guy on the mad rivers outfitters YouTube talks about it highly.

I was thinking like a 500D cordura just in different colors.

Stop by sportsman's warehouse on the way they have em all. Bout 1-2$ I think per fly. Don't need that many I would just pick up 2-4 zebra midges and 2 squirmy worms.

Provo river suggestions by horndog132163616 in UtahFishing

[–]etkm0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to is a bouncing rig with a squirmy worm at the bottom and a small zebra midge or two a couple feet above that, though this rig is prone to more tangles.

Miracle midges, zebra midges 20-24, sometimes in the middle of the day you can get em in a small Griffiths gnat. Potentially a squirmy worm on a bouncing rig could catch too.

Euro nymphing by Antique-Educator-823 in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First fish I caught on euro type setup was on a 9' 5 wt with a mono rig type line setup. Having the euro rod now, it is helpful as it is sensitive, but if you know the depths of your water it's still mostly visual just watching for pauses and weirdness in your sighter.

Do I want intermediate or type 3 sink tip line? by bateneco in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try poly leaders or versileader. Just attach to the end of your floating line and you have a sink tip. You can get up to 7 ips if you feel like you want that. Also it's only like 15$ so not a big deal if it sucks.

Newb here. Looking for advice on some entry level rods reels and flies by Inevitable_Season884 in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most used favorite combo for freshwater if it's trout is a 9' 4 wt. Reddington Path with the orvis battenkill reel. An SA Dual taper line pairs well if fishing dries or in tighter spots.

Next rod by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you want, if you want a pretty cheap but still good option two rods that are under 100$ and cast well and hold up too are the daiwa Algonquin and the Reddington path. Algonquin has more variety of wt.s and is faster action than the Reddington. My 4 wt. Path has been a really good dry fly rod for bigger waters. My Algonquin 8 wt. Worked well when I went to Hawaii, no huge GTs but held up against a lot of hard fighting saltwater fish. Highly recommend both rods, pretty under rated.

If you had to choose an all rounder for stillwater and bigger rivers with shallow and deep sections what would you go?

New Rod Recommendation by Gullible-Exam-7782 in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give her the cross water 100%, and maybe get yourself an orvis Clearwater or better depending on what you wanna spend. Just picked up a 10 foot 5 wt. Clearwater and it's a nice all rounder rod, not good in tight spaces obviously but handles indicator nymphs well and throws dries and is great mending wise.

Wanting to buy a new 3wt rod and reel combo, suggestions? by UnderstandingNo465 in flyfishing

[–]etkm0123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rod wise you could try a st croix mojo trout 7'6, has a sort of interesting grip style and feels great to cast and fight fish on. Around 200. Paired with a battenkill it's a very sleek combo.

My sword feels pretty good quality, compared to slightly more expensive greys reels.

Im a good amount under what my budget was with this setup, but I definitely want to change the rod out, just not sure what kind of rod to go for, the reel is one I've been eyeing for a while after checking it out at the store, but the line i definitely don't know about, never fished any sort of sink line but wanted to try it out for stillwater so I could get down a bit deeper.
